Its like I tried to tell people here, with the 5AT and using BP Ultimate, you could really feel the trans "bang" gears, it was pretty noticeable, something was going on there

I guess I overfilled the car. I have 80 miles and still have a full tank. The ultra gauge says 91 percent full so I have to average the last tank to this tank to get accurate mpg. When 2 lines are gone on the fuel gauge its 2 gallons and I take the the miles at that point and divide it by 2 and it usually works out for the tank.

Car is running really good and better than new. Its finally getting broken in.

Up to 42 mpg from last tanks 41.2 and this was with Speedway 89 but it was also a bit warmer a couple of the days too. I topped off with BP Ultimate yesterday though. I'll tell you what, I'm surprised I don't push the sport button every time I get in the car, its like having another car in the car, what a difference in perf and feel I actually have a screen to go into with this car to see how well I'm being "eco" and when using the sport mode, well, it seems to go into the "bad" zone pretty easily, maybe its my recent exhaust mod helping that along

Well that is awesome. Your getting 6 plus better mpg than the Fit. Your getting better mpg than most CRZ owners so its working for out for you. My civic is getting around 38 mpg. If I did not have the lights on so much I would get a lot better mpg.

I thought I wrecked my car but its the heat shield. There was a tick and thought the valves needed to be adjusted but its was the injector sticking and its gone now. I passed a car on the tollway and every bit of HP was used, It was great.

The highest my screen showed for average mileage was 45.6 mpg, should've taken a pic because we've got a thread for that over there I bet by the time the spring rolls around and the motor is truely broken in, I will be average atleast that, if not more, so maybe the 50 mpg is a possibility. I found a trick when the auto start/stop doesn't work (its got a mind of its own) and this is done by having the car in neutral and pushing in and out on the clutch, it usually works but sometimes it doesn't, the car has a mind of its own!

I see the next gen Fit getting this technology for sure, atleast the 6MT

Just below 1/2 tank and I filled it up, supposed to be cold tonight and the damn gas prices are on the rise with a furry, .20 cents in the past couple days. I passed my station this morning at 4:45 a.m. and it was $3.59, up from $3.55 and this afternoon it was up to $3.65. In reality its not that big of a deal, but the trend is upwards, that's a bad sign. The price per barrel is up to almost $97 per, it was down to $82 not too long ago.....wonder if anyone notices or cares

Anyways, I netted 41.2, down .8 mpg but its been getting cold again and I did play with the sport button. I have decided to try using the ECON button for this tank to see what happens, its so damn restrictive, its going to kill me for sure

Gas went up 20 cents today. Its all over the radio. Its because the value of the dollar dropped again. That's what we get for being on the world market.

I heard them say that the demand is low, so again, why the sudden, steep rise in prices, crazy

Just to see what happens, I'm driving the car in ECON mode till this current tank is almost empty, 2 says in and its like the car has about 75 hp The OBC is showing 41 mpg, so that number is about 1 mpg higher than before, the cold weather this morning didn't help, but its supposed to warm up so we'll see how it goes. I'm getting used to it for sure but I hate when someones behind me because the car takes off so slow and the shift light comes on very early.

The demand was low here but its traded around the world. Traffic has been bad this week and with the stock market going crazy the value of the dollar is going down so gas goes up. Its still cheaper than in the summer but gas mileage is also lower too.

I am getting 38 which is OK but my ultra gauge is off by 10 percent.

SB, what's your experience with Hondata and mileage? I'm asking because they're releasing a tune for the CR-Z next month. Now I'm not ready to do this because I wanna do other things first, but if its worth it and doesn't affect the mileage too bad I would consider it though

Its not needed right now on what your doing unless your throwing the supercharger Kit in. The stock ecu is already tuning for the best mpg.

Here is some info I found about Honda tuning.

This should help you make up your mind.

Lost 2.5 mpg in ECON mode

So I thought I'd give it a go with ECON mode, a button that really limits the throttle response big time and I swear reduces power in the car. So I've been taking the same way to work, shifting at or before the shift light like usual and its been a bit warmer the past couple days too. So I needed a carwash and hit the local Mobil station, topped off with their 93 and checked the mileage. The OBC showed 40.3 but my calculator said 39.0 mpg, kinda surprised to see this, especially with the warmer weather since Sunday. I'm not going to try the car in SPORT and let me tell you, this car is a different animal altogether in that mode, its like having 3 cars in one, even the exhaust sounds different in sport

Results coming up sometime next week but its supposed to get cold again, so its hard to say what its going to be like, we'll see I guess.

Its all about torque management ECON lowers the torque but as you can see in regular traffic its lowering the mpg. When the engine is more efficient in Sport mode more torque is available and your mpg is up because you are controlling the whole torque curve.

I took the side streets home late last night and did not go over 50mph and my fuel trim trimmed out to -5.5 for both meaning my car was using less gas. The denser air is causing a lost at highway speeds above 55 so slowing down in the winter will bring up the mpg to the same in summer at 70 mph.

Surprise surprise!

So my experiment is over and here's rthe results:

-39.0 mpg in ECON mode

-41.5 mpg in SPORT mode

The only difference was using Mobil 93 for SPORT and BP 93 for ECON mode. I'm very happy with the results and will be staying in SPORT mode....and loving it! FWIW too, the weather has been very consistent too, so that factor, along with the route I take to work has stayed the same as well. I just can't wait till spring now, when the weather starts to warm up and oh yeah, all that white sheeet goes away too

You need to rerun the test backwards but there is not enough time to compare it. The weather is going to change over the next week and snow is soon predicted.

You definitely drive more efficient than the econ can. See how more timing relates to mpg and efficiency?

I am driving my wife's car this week and my truck is smother at start up and warm up. It took a few miles before the engine smoothed out. I dont like regular with ethanol. I also went thru 1/4 tank in 60 miles which I can use 1/2 a tank for the whole week in my car with premium. I dont have the ultra gauge hooked up but I can feel the difference.

Its actually easy to drive efficiently, you just need to pay attention to what your doing out there and once you do, its easy. My OBC is still well over 40 mpg with the 2nd tank using SPORT mode, so I'm liking that alot. The car feels waaaaaay different in SPORT

BTW, all the people on the CR-Z site who've installed the K&N typhoon have noted a mileage increase afterwards

It is somewhat of a surprise to me that the K&N Typhoon would provide an increase in fuel mileage on the CRZ.... I would suppose that it is due to the electric motor providing power and not requiring as much throttle to get moving at low speed... As long as I was not driving my Fit in stop and go traffic and steadily moving above 3500 RPM I was getting better than stock mileage with a SRI and larger than stock axle back pipe with a short glass pack muffler... It took more throttle and revs to pick up speed than stock at lower revs....

Econ mode seems to retard the timing and slows down the throttle response which lowers the torque. So you end up pressing down further on the pedal to try to get the power needed.

Question

Well I just bumped up my tires to 40 psi to get ready for the weather that's sure to come, sooner or later. I've read on our forum about tire psi and I feel that 40 is the max for my comfort (tire is rated at 51 max psi IIRC) so that's what I've done to get ready.

Hey SB, you still think that using mid-grade when the weather gets really cold is the way way to go or should I just stick with premium? Keep in mind that I've got the drop-in K&N and not the typhoon (yet!)

I have a problem bumping up the air pressure to over 36 psi. On the door is the air pressure settings recommended by Honda. That is the perfect setting for mpg, ride and handling. Were going in to winter and black ice is everywhere so more air pressure has less traction.

I threw in 5 gallons of mid grade in my car. Runs good but can feel the timing retard at highway speeds. I will alternate to try to save a few penny's but if my mpg falls below what I get on premium I will go back.

I put in 8 gallons of premium into my wife's car and drove it every day this week. I put on 180 miles on a quarter tank. Before it had regular and averaged 28 mpg. If the mpg holds up it is now getting the same mpg as mine 38 mpg in mixed driving.

I had a problem with a rough Idle in the wife's car and no power. My truck at work is smoother than that. Premium brought back the power but the idle is still bad at start up. Going to look for injection cleaner like Redline total fuel injection cleaner, It similar to Techron but more concentrated and less is needed. The bottle lasts for 10/12 fill ups. Its hard to find though.
