First post! =P

Okay so this is my first post. Just got my fit two days ago and I love it so far, gun metal sport MT 11. The OBC says so far that I'm getting 39.7! I know that this is not as accurate as calculating at fill up, will see when I actually have to fill it. Still running on the dealer tank. Had 64 miles on when I drove off lot, now has 256 with more than half tank left. 20% highway 20% city 60% back road hills. Hope it will do better once broken in. A/C on at 1 slot psi 38. Hope to pick up more tricks to save on gas.

climbing - continue to drive it as you are, those are good numbers.

I've been seeing 37-40 in my daily driving world, Ultra-93 when I can get it.

Those are great mpg numbers too. I am at 42 in the Civic. Wife car is better too. Getting 33 but that is city mpg.

Welcome aboard!

The OBC in my car is either right on the money when it comes time to figure the mileage out the "old fashioned way" but no more than 1.5 mpg at the most and that's even rare. I find its within .5 mpg but I fill up the same way everytime though, so its pretty accurate doing it that way

You may wanna read this thread, if you've got the time and see what the improvements are when running premium in the car too. I switched to BP Ultimate and noticed an improvement for sure, especially in the winter. its worth a shot, especially with your car being new and when you think about it the extra cost will be made up in the mpg improvement, not to mention the response, trust me, its there, especially with the use of BP

Tricks on picking up better mileage, well, simple stuff like tire pressure and the use of synthetic oil (once your broke in and/or done with the free oil change from the dealership) are two more ways to improve your mileage too. Watch that mpg gauge too, it works and try coasting up to lights without using the gas at all, its all how bad you wanna max it out. My car has a little over 29k on it and with mixed driving and a/c on half the day, I'm getting between 35.0-35.5 mpg.

Once again, welcome aboard and don't be shy asking questions anywhere here, especially this thread, SB has a wealth of info/knowledge on the subject, not to mention others as well

Thank you KA, The new Fits come with synthetic 0w20. How is your car running with it?

climbing - I started out simply figuring the best I could do with my FIT out of the box. Driving style came first, patience came next. I needed to get to know the car. Next thing was to bump the tire psi up to 35. As the engine broke in things improved. Around 15K miles I thought of premium fuel. History told me it wouldn't matter, as well as many on this forum. I made the switch and 'felt' a difference, but couldn't see one. Back to regular and continued to follow the fuel debate. Soon I switched back and have seen a slight improvement, enough to make it worth while to me.

What's the difference, running premium has given a better response at lower rpm by grabbing timing advance. I believe it's allowing me to drive a bit more conservatively at the lower end, hence a better MPG. The FIT does seem to adjust to the benefits of premium fuel, however, hang around the forum and you'll see this is one of the 'hot topic' discussions - it and oil.

Saying that, my next change will be to synthetic oil. Discussion has it it will give a MPG return. Possibly I'll see that, but I'm more interested in the longevity of the motor w/ 9K oil changes.

It's a great little car - will give you great MPG's just need to learn how drive it to get the advantage and follow the suggestions you're going to find in the freakworld.

Use what you see others doing as a guide, you're final MPG will be based on your driving profile and conditions. Like I said though, you're already seeing good numbers.

Thx for the support everyone! Never have I been a part of a forum for my car. I still love my fit! Okay today I had to fill up for the second time, 374 miles, 8.76 is when it clicked off. For that tank that means it was 42.6 mpgs, let me know if im figuring wrong. This time filled with 93 from turkey hill. Hope that it will be okay that it's not bp? I have been reading about hypermiles and good habits but not doing anything crazy like shutting off engine in motion. Started with stock tire pressure then 38 psi, now in running 42psi. That's all I've done so far besides the new gas for today. Did notice a difference right away in gas not sure if it's good, when in CC I would set and it would stay there unless I changed it. Now with 93 it will not engine break on down hills as much and will go over the set speed. Why is this? I have a theory of my own with no exp but is it because the car has to get used to the higher grade? Seemed to spike the OBC more on up hills when I have it in the best spots I've found for gearing. Oh for me so far I've found that in 4th gear it gets the best between 30-35 mph with CC and 5th gear 40-45 with CC. That's on smaller roads of course not the highway, I run it between 55-60 right now on highway. I read from one of the links that break in for the car can take awhile but this one thread said the first 20 miles count and that's it! I got it with 64 miles so I hope it's not true about letting it warm up completely and running it really hard for 20 miles so the gaskets will set and seal? I'm clueless to a lot of stuff when it comes to cars. I did buy a turbonator but now that I have one don't think it's going to be easy to install from looking at the engine bay and people on this site and others say they don't work. Reason I got one was I thought I saw an improvement when I installed one in my last car (scion xa m/t) about a 4 mpg gain. Not sure what do you guys think. And would it Hurt to try it, there are no moving parts to it just stick it in the air filter pipe section. Sorry for going on and how it looks I'm doing this all from my phone. Haha don't really use my laptop much unless I need to print stuff and taxs grrr. I'll try bp premium next time I fill up and see what happens if I can find a station! I live in Lancaster PA.

Do not overfill the tires. I put in 40 psi in my Fit and wreck the tires due to the center of the tire wearing out faster. There is a chart in one of the doors for recommended tire pressure. As the tire gets hot the pressure expands so the tire pressure is higher when Hot. I never noticed a difference in engine braking but it might be because of the tire pressure. Less resistance.

200 miles is break in on the brakes and 600 miles is the motor. Keep the oil in until the MM says change it 1 yr or 15 percent.

I will let other chime in on the build up because I left my Fit stock except for M1 and premium gas.

My first tank on the fit was 36, second was still regular and got 34, then I tried mid grade and went up to 37 and then premium I got 40. The first 2 winters I got 35 average but the third winter it dropped to 32-34. Summer I was getting 38-40 mpg and average a high 36.6 for the life time of the car. It would have been higher if I had 1 more summer but got 2 Civics instead. My wife uses regular except when I fill it up and she cant get better than 30 mpg. My car I am getting 42 mpg on 2 fill ups with help of the ultra gauge to do the math on the same route I drove the Fit.

Your 42 mpg is excellent and I dont expect you gaining on that.

Just looked up around my area and there are no bp stations anymore. What is everybody else using/getting the best results?

I try to buy at high volume stations. Sunoco has been my brand of choice - Ultra93, when I can find it. Shell would be next, but not that many stations in my area. I've been a long believer in: Top Tier Gasoline They list retailers.

EDIT: If I could buy ethanol free I would!!!

I got gas today and 2.5 tank average got 40 mpg. That's good considering the bad traffic from the holiday and storms delays. Right know I am averaging 37 but that's with 45 minutes of idling due to lights being out from the storm that knock out power to some 600,000 customers. My neighborhood looks like a disaster zone, Trees and aluminum siding and roof shingles everywhere. Luckily we have power and my house was not touched.

Here is some more info I found http://crcao.com/reports/recentstudi.../CRC%20660.pdf . Keep in mind its ethanol free pure gas, low compression, and they show knock retard and more investigation needed for effect on mpg and power. It shows that they cant lie about no difference and cant wait to see the results. Also octane is 88.5 which is about were most car manufactures set MBT for 9.5 compression.

Hope everything is ok SB, I was downtown Monday morning when that storm blew in, had to walk around in it, sucked but it cooled things down for a while though.

The heavy use of a/c is taking its toll on my mileage, just when the average was showing near 40 mpg, its down to 34.7 right now and I've gotta get gas tomorrow, so we'll see what the damage is. I think this new BP station I'm going to has better gas than previous ones, so I'm liking that. When I go down to the Dragon in a couple monthes I'll be using the local BP station for sure over the Exxon station............well, I'll be going to the Exxon station for the touch-free wash though!

34.7 mpg as of today, still pretty consistent though, just wish the price per barrel would keep going down, now its creeping back up, damn it!

My cable went out. There is a difference from gas station to station of the same brand. You need to get a ultra gauge, It will pay for itself in a no time and show you how to change your driving style. I also threw in some Iso Heet and noticed my mpg went up but so did my engine temps 2 degrees and CAT temps by 50 or so. I am getting 40 mpg even with 1 hour in stop and go from the power outage.

The only major players I know are investing heavily in oil and gold... These are folks with inside info and they are rolling in money.

Okay just filled up today with shell 93. It's expensive! Really hope it's better than turkey hill 93 cuz it costs 20 cents more! Second fill up. Tire psi 40 394 miles/8.788 gallons clicker clicked = 44.83 MPG! Same driving habits. Light for low fuel didn't ever come on. Does anyone know exactly how many gallons is our tank? Manuel said the light will come on when there is about 1.64 gallons left. Now to detail my car =P

IIRC the tank holds 10.3 gallons of fuel and yeah, the brand name stuff is better than no-name for sure. It will take a couple tanks for the ecu to get used to the good stuff, so give it some time.

Hey SB, try some Water Wetter in the coolant system, the stuff works

The blast furnace is about to come back on this weekend but it looks like the Fit will be getting a break as we'll be driving my g/f's Mazda 6, God I love that car, especially now with the new tire/wheel package and the recent 2nd full exterior detail

When I went to Washington DC a few years ago, I used Sunoco ultra93. Its very close to BP. I averaged 27 Bp and 26 Sunoco in a Chrysler 3.8 liter mini van fully loaded with the family and dog. I was happy with that considering the EPA rated it 24 under the old system which the actually mpg was always lower.
