Now let's hope the gas stays under $100 a barrel, they said if it stays there for a month the gas should come down to the low $3.00, let's see
It should come down a little but dont expect 3.00 gas. Summer gas comes out next week and thats 20 cents more so it should come down to around 4 dollars. I am getting 39 mpg in the Civic, I cant seem to get it to 40 but that with a average speed of 42 mph for 2 tanks. I really like the ultra gauge it figures everything out. I also did a few full throttle runs down the highway from 60 to 82 mph and noticed the timing would go to 26 and climb .5 degrees timing at a time until it got to 28.5. I did not want to continue because of the speed I was at but might try a few from a stop and see the what the timing does at full throttle.

I thought it was interesting that it was climbing and not falling due to possible knock. 32 degrees is full timing(MBT) but it didn't have the chance to get there. As you can see that I dont drive all highway so 39 mpg is very good.

Gas came down 15 cents and I am getting an average of 38.2 on 2 tanks. Thats not bad for a lot of stop lights. You would think the lights would be timed better. The lights are timed for tickets and to use more gasoline.

Drove from Jacksonville FL to Charlotte NC and back this weekend.

When traveling from 71-74mph with a/c on i averaged 36mpg. When traveling 77-80mph with a/c on i averaged 32mpg.

Not bad at all for the speeds. The wind does seem to push the little car around a good bit about 75mph though.

Hey NukeDog, is your car still new? The reason I ask is because last year when my car was brand new, I got 36 MPG w/o the a/c on but in the summer trips, with the a/c on and more miles on it, I would get anywhere from 39-43 mpg (43 mpg was achieved using the stock tires/wheels) Best I've gotten with the wider tires was 41 MPG. These trips were between Chicago and Detroit, pretty flat land and your trip starting getting hilly once you got out of FLA, so that has alot to do with it too. Try using premium on your next trip, actually, start using it now so the ECU get's used to and then you'll be happier with the results

Just a comment [off topic] on fuel prices.

THEY SUCK

We are all being taken for a ride by commodity speculators profiting on hedged bets.

Not as bad as here in Chicago. 5.05 for premium downtown. I paid 4.59 this week and last week 4.69.

Still pretty new with 4500 miles on it. I am happy with anything over 30 since my 500hp truck only gets 14mpg...lol

Diggin the hi-octane

I'm lovin it!
Filled up with Ultra93 - last tank off the latest MPG run gave me 38.3.
Two days local driving and I'm seeing 42+ on the MM.
Think this means that Sunoco has finally run dry on the reformulated crap.

I'm gonna start calling mine zippie.

It's Maine via Boston this weekend - I might see some really nice numbers and probably a lobster or two.

I'm driving to Portland from the CA/OR border and maybe on to Seattle in a couple of weeks and plan on using premium. I hope to see some improvement with the increased octane and summer recipe.

Now I'm just waiting on the gas prices to come down, when's that supposed to happen again

I seem to get the best MPG with the tried and true lowest octane method. Just like very other vehicle i have owned over the last 25 years...

Maybe its something in the gas because my mileage has gone up when using the good stuff and I do notice an increase in perf per the "butt dyno"

My last tank netted me 33.6 mpg and that was using the a/c 3 days in a row because it was in the upper 80's to mid 90's last week....I WILL NEVER SWEAT IN LUE OF MPG!

I'm curious what made you change your position on gas octane? Did you do mpg test runs comparing 87 and 91 octane and the cost difference was paying off? If so can you share your results? Or using it just for the "butt dyno" performance gains?

I read an older thread were you posted the exact opposite is why I question. At that time not long ago, you were very set on using only 87 octane. I remembered it was you because of your unique user name, same used on CEG (my last car was a Contour SVT). This is one of the reasons I love my Fit, back to cheaper regular gas instead of the premium I needed to use in the SVT.

The very long arm of the CEG.....even reaches here to FF! SilverBullet dropped me a couple PM's that had links to them and I will say this, in the early winter I was getting 22-23 mpg and then I switched to BP 93 and the mileage went up to 28-29 mpg but it took a couple tanks to work but it did. When I get to go back home to Detroit we'll see how it goes, my average for that trip is 37-39 mpg going there and 38-41 mpg going back to Chicago, we shall see.

BTW, you going to SZ

Wow 30% increase in mpg. Thats seems unreal. Is this attributed in part to sub freezing weather and different gas formlations during the winter for the grades? Have you ever tried 91 octane? I don't even know offhand of a station where I can buy 93. 91 octane here is priced only 5% higher. Might have to do some tests on it. I already track my mpg very tightly so would be easy to tell any change. I have tested 91 on my motorcycles and no difference in mpg whatsoever. Only change was they ran slightly hotter temps, but not much. But neither bike is fuel injected so that makes a difference.

No SZ, never have went due to time off work and distance. All my vacation time spent with my kids. I did see your Dragon Run, that would be fun also but same reason can't go.

I thought you had 93 octane up there but maybe its to cool(temp) for 93 on average.

Efficiency and Octane of various Gasoline blends from "pure" Gasoline to E85 - Fuel Economy, Hypermiling, EcoModding News and Forum - EcoModder.com Read the OP and look at the link. Ive dyno'ed my fit and at full throttle it operated at a 14.2 fuel air. If there was knock it would have ran richer and it also ran at loads higher than 70 percent in closed loop with premium.

Once I get north of my home range it's all about 91octane. Those are typical summer months. 2-3 taller than winter.
