As your hiding with "USA" for location, I'd guess you and not in a good area to get a deal.

I have seen recent local ads for Fit's for less than MSRP here in SE Fla.

My Fit Sport MSRP was $15,905 American
My invoice was $15,625.47 including
$589 dealer fee "service"
$50 Battery, tires tag title

They also included strips and Honda Floor mats and 1st oil change that I did not take.

That was Feb 2008 and I'd bet it's harder now, but not an absolute. Honda wants to get rid of the 2008 Fits and if you live in an area with many on the Honda lots, they will deal
There has been a "sea change" since Feb., ie $4.00 gas! The average retail for a used 07 Fit is aprox, $15,000. Amazing! 2007 Honda Fit Resale Values & Book Prices at Automobile Magazine

a "sea change" since Feb.,

What did you pay for your Fit?

Gas has gone from $3.20 to $4.10 and back down to $3.80 and still dropping.
Only other change is the 08 Fit modle is closing out.

What does that have to do with the fact that a Fit price is a regional thing??

Depending on the region, supply should be pretty limited considering all 08s are here and 09s don't go on sale until 10/1. Even if someone has 5 or 6 they have 7 weeks to sell them.

Exactly. The key is to find that region and hope it's close by. Hey, without question it's harder now then at the start of the year or last year. The point is there's no absolute deal that the all sell from MSRP or MSRP + now.

I just reserved an 09

I just reserved mine. $500 down. Getting it through my guy in Houston. It is a Silver Manual Base Model 2009 Fit. I'm paying 2009 MSRP. Pricing not yet released, although I've seen some post on the idea. Mine will be built August 18, and delivered two weeks later. I'll believe it when I see it, but that's the plan.

I called an put my name on my local dealers list for an MT '09 Orange Revolution Metallic Sport w/o NAV. I simply cannot wait to get it. They didn't require a deposit as tey were getting one anyway and they know they can sell it should i fall through. I was surprised when I went to test drive the 08 a few weeks ago because the salesman was very nice, and didn't even ask for my information before letting me test drive. I walked i, said I want to test drive the fit out there, and 3 min later I was pulling off... I will certainly have no problem giving the dealer MSRP, if not a little over just because they treated me so much better than ANY dealer I have been to, and I've been car shopping for about 8 months.

I didn't ask about them doing their "prep" on it with striping and all... I better cause I certainly don't want any stripes on my car, though with the talk of the paint being crappy on the '07/08's, I may want the paint protectant services....

I hope the gearing is fixed i the '09 as I did notice it was a little high revving on the highway in the '08 I tested.

I'm just as enthused as you are, waiting for our '09 AT Sport to come within a month or so. My only question is, are you certain about the color? I can't believe that I can only get a computer-generated version of what "orange revolution" looks like.

Yeah, I am not so positive about the color due to not being able to see it either. But if I don't like it I will just tell them I want something different, and if need go to another dealer. I didn't put any money down, and I've never had a new car, so I'm not out anything if I have to wait longer because the color isn't what I expected. I just don't really care for the red or blue... if orange fails I will get black.

I imagine it being a more vivid orange than the 08... which is really what I want. The digital color chip the dealer showed me on his screen was a little dark, but so were all the others. He said as soon as he gets actual chips in he will let me know.

What color are you planning to get?

It's good you're not bound to the dealer. This Fit will be shared with my wife, yet we both concur that the exterior color choices are pretty generic. Black is a great color, but my current black Accord coupe shows every possible scratch. Through process of elimination, we're going with orange revolution. It's insane that Honda has not routed any new info on this '09, other than the brief posting on its Web site. I signed up for that email update there over a month ago. Anyway, we constantly see boring looking cars and car colors currently on the road. An orange Fit won't be one of them....

No way that car is delivered 2 weeks after the build date. First the on sale date is 10/1. Second it usually takes 5-6 weeks for a Japan production vehicle to be built, shipped, get through customs and transported.

I'm happy for you getting the car but in 8 years of working for Honda I've never seen a Japan production car get anywhere in 2 weeks other than a voat. Plan on Early Oct.

Finally made it to a couple local dealers today and placed my order.

2009 Honda Fit Sport
Tafetta White
Automatic
No Nav

First dealer I went to were the dumbest people I have EVER had a conversation with, they knew nothing, refused my order, and said any vehicle coming in would have a $2500 markup. I told them to shove it. This is Courtesy Honda in Sanford for the record, I don't suggest my worst enemy go to that place.

Second dealer was Classic/Holler Honda in Winter Park FL. That is where I ended up ordering the car from. Without any questions, they agreed to MSRP, no added dealer accessories, and a refundable deposit. They pulled a list of what they had coming in and a planned build date (My car will be built 9/10) and also said it would take 2 weeks to come in. I think the major misconception dealers are having is that it only takes accords and civics 2 weeks to come in because they are made in america, and with the fit being made in japan (which neither dealer knew) it should actually take longer. Nevertheless, they said it would be there 2 weeks after, not a day more. I said OK, and am planning 5-6 weeks after. They also have an 09 coming in next week for customers to sit and drive, I'll be sure to check it out.

So lesson learned, Classic/Holler = Good, Courtesy = Bad. Glad the car is ordered, it'll be nice for the wife and I to have a third car/daily.

Does anyone have any information on the gear ratio's for the 09's yet? It sounds like 07-08 models aren't geared very intelligently for highway travel.

I don't understand why Honda wouldn't space the gears out further and get more use out of 2nd, 3rd and 4th while making 5th a taller gear that would turn 2000-2500 at 70mph. I understand that this is marketed as a highway commuter car, but it would be trivially easy to improve the highway cruising RPMs.

I'm hoping that gets thought out a little more intelligently in the 09 model.

If they 07-08 where geared higher for highway I think they would have no power at all. If you load up the fit it would struggle too much in a taller gearer and burn more fuel.

That is true. I could live with that... Could make some mods easier as well if they keep enough the same. Anyone heard if the suspension on US version is same as JDM? If so I can lower it much sooner than anticipated.

Canadian dealerships get a "Virtual Training" session today from Honda HQ in Toronto. Changing rims on the new fit looks like its going to be a pain the ass due to the monitoring systems for the wheels. The spare tire package has been replaced with a "Tire Repair Kit".

I saw the package that was handed out the canadian dealerships. Canadians will be getting three trim levels again: DX, LX and Sport.
The NAV system will NOT be an option (US only).
AT: tire repair kit is standard, spare tire will be option though. Fuel econ: 7.1 L/100 city (better than the MT).
MT: spare tire is standard. Fuel econ.: 7.2L/100km city. I only care about city mileage...
Official release date: Sept. 16
