Can you imagine how slow a 1.3L AWD fit would be. Handling would be sweet though.

My guess is that someone could be trying to validate a recent 08 purchase by bashing the 09?

I did drive a 1.5 AWD Fit (last generation) in Japan for a day. I did not notice much if any of a performance penalty at this displacement, even though I drove it from the sea level to about a 4,000 foot elevation for a test. There was a hit in terms of the gas mileage comparing with the FWD Fit, though. I do not remember exactly, but it was at least a 10% penalty, which is rather significant if you think about it.

I have not driven a 1.3 AWD Fit, but I already know it would be slow, as the 1.3 FWD one is plenty slow.

Well, it wasn't really a secret that a new model was coming out was it?

I had been waiting for the price and supply of the current model to come down to Earth to buy and I really liked the Fit I have. I don't like it any less than I did before just because a new one is coming along. There are things I like more about the new one, but it isn't as if I was going to queue up to pay $21,000 for a Fit just so I could be one of the first to have the zOMG telescoping steering wheel and a navigation system.

I paid cash for a base 08 and I will likely drive it for 5-6 years. I'm pretty practical when it comes to this stuff. When I was in my early 20's I was more likely to be like "OMG!!! have to have teh newest one with th3 9 more horsepowerzzz or i will be sooo jealous" but my values are just different now.

If I was buying a car next year or something, then sure, I would have gotten the new one, a base model, prices would be reasonable by then etc. But the timing was just right for me to get what I did and I got exactly what I wanted. It was meant to be.

I am just really glad to see Honda selling a hatchback in the United States again and I hope the 2009+ model is super-successful here!

It would be great if it influenced Honda to reintroduce a Civic hatchback here. I could see myself replacing my Fit with a 50+ mpg clean diesel or hybrid hatchback Civic in 6 years or so.

Does any one know if the rear suspension has been updated on the 09 fit? The 1st generation has a Torsion-Beam Rear Suspension. Does this carry over to the 2009 2nd gen or is it going to have an independent rear suspension? I have not found any official info but any one who has seen the JDM 09, any word?

Yes.. the 09 still has the torsion beam in the rear... but it is a little different from the 07~08 design...
