You guys in NC only pay 3% sales tax on auto purchases? Nice!

Yep! They charge 3% highway use tax here on vehicle purchases (car cost minus trade-in value) instead of NC sales tax.

New forum member here. After months of much research and dealer shopping, I bought mine earlier this week in Southern California. Out of the almost-ten dealers in my area, I chose:

2015 EX CVT, Purple.

18,400
1478 - tax
324 - all other fees

20202 OTD

Car was clean, but I asked them to throw in their protective package installed on half of their cars. Dealer rejected, but offered one of the three accessories. I chose the Cargo Tray.

I'm a first-time buyer, and boy, did I learn a lot from this exciting experience.

Post Honda Fit LX CVT

Hi All,

I also finally bought the Honda Fit LX CVT for the final price of $17,750

The breakup was as follows:
Selling price: 16,110
Luxcare protection : $299 (it was there by default)
State Sales tax: $1025 (@6.25% for Texas)
Dealer documentary fees: $150
The rest approx. $160 being inspection fees, license, title, inventory tax, road/bridge fees, etc

From my research I believe this was a pretty good deal (for Texas), would like to know others opinion. The only free accessory was a cargo mat. Thanks.

How are people walking out with the LX CVT with a price below the 18000s? Is this a Florida thing because I seriously have been very smart about playing these dealerships against each other and all I've gotten is 18 flat at the lowest and that was after the dealer quoted me 18700.

I mean seriously. I did a whole spreadsheet and called all the Honda dealers in my area. Even the true car and Edmund pricing are in the 18000s... I got all these dealers to give me a no nonsense price and the lowest was 18400s..

I mean for reference: 19000, 18700, 18800, 18550, 184450, 18000 flat (took a lot of smoothness to get this! I actually had a manager call me back with this price. He was even frustrated at my disinterest) "No one's going to go this low!" I was like well, "yeah, let me think about it" I did take this offer because yeah, other folks weren't budging... It's funny cause this offer includes a lot of nonsense crap like protection package but yet this is the lowest offer! :/

Yes, I was also struggling to get anything under 18K but luckily I had got a good online quote from internet manager from my older city about 2 months back. I saved that and used it - one of the dealers matched that quote and i got the LX CVT for 17750! One thing which I kept doing was always asking for a final price, whichever dealer I went to.

Even i was not expecting anything but they had this Lux paint and seat protection package and tinted windows pre-installed. The final bill had $300 for protection package - which i did not bother to haggle on.

MSRP - 17200
Honda Protection Pkg - 1676 (This is B.S but at this price, I was not complaining)
Discount - 3100
Sale price - 15845
Tax - 1048
Tag and Title - 406
Pre delivery service fee - 699

OTD price - 18000 flat

But I got gap insurance through the dealership which I am now trying to cancel because progressive provides it!! They are seriously dragging their feet though. I have called them twice!

What shocks me is that 18,000 is the lowest price I got and looking at some of the stuff there, you can tell it's total B.S.

Financed @ 2.79% through Bank of America because when Honda quoted me freaking 5%, I was like GTFO. It's annoying cause they were offering the 500 for new grads but I can see why if that's their APR. I mean I have a banging credit score in the high 700s. I got Bank of America to approve me in a matter of minutes...

2015 Honda Fit EX-L Nav, Yellow

First post! Bought my Fit on March 28.

2015 Honda Fit EX-L Nav, Yellow
Pinstripes, wheel locks, door edge guards, nitrogen filled tires
1 year maintenance
Full tank of fuel

$19,543.47
$820.00 destination and handling
$354.50 government fees
$1,262.54 taxes

OTD = $21,980.51

Financed at 2.4% for six years through my credit union. Could have gotten .8% for five years if I'd waited until April 1, when the rates dropped. Oh well.

Bought this at Brown's Arlington Honda in Virginia from Brad. Taxes and fees are for DC.

Wow, looks like I got a pretty good price. A bit surprising considering I live in the SF bay area where small cars like these are very popular. I did have to drive about 50 miles out of town to a dealership that also sold a lot of trucks, which I assume have higher profit margins and they must have just been trying to get rid of their fits. They had about 15 of them sitting on the lot.

Model: LX CVT
Price: $15,886
Sales tax: 9.5% (damn you, California!!!)
Out the door price: 17,736

I actually found one place that was willing to sell it 100$ cheaper, but they only had it in white, and I really wanted the blue (it's so pretty), so I sucked it up.

Here's my breakdown in Phoenix, AZ for my purchase today:

2015 Honda Fit EX, CVT
Vehicle Price: $17,713.00
Accessory Package $699.00
Taxable Total $18,412.00
Sales Tax 8.3% $1,528.19
Registration $402.62
Documentation Fee $395.00
Total OTD: $20,737.81

The Accessory Package was Window Tinting, Wheel Locks, Splash Guards, Trunk Tray. I used TrueCar and made sure to have my out the door price e-mailed before I came in to finish paperwork. The dealer tried to upsell me on a $12.5K, kept saying no.

They tried to have me purchase one of the MPP plans listed on New Car Warranties | MPP - Mechanical Protection Plan to cover everything for 100k miles, I wish I had enough patience with them to write which one down. If I had signed up, my out the door price would have gone from $20.7K to $33.2K per their paperwork.
