I think I've browsed through the whole thread once or twice since I started car shopping this week. Everyone knows car shopping is the biggest headache next to a pregnancy scare lol.

Can anyone tell me if you've beat this price. I've seen a few people get low 17 in here with CVT, so I'm aiming for mid 16s.

2015 Fit LX MT (NO OPTIONS)
17,061 OTD

Location - South Florida.

I'm not willing to give into these sneaky dealerships without a fight.

The Edmunds Price Promise quotes I obtained through the internet from dealers in MA for an LX MT ranged from $15,556 to $15,700 before tax, title, license, registration and the nebulous "administrative" or "dealer document" fees. Don't know what the administrative/dealer document fees are for and no one had a good answer...between $360 and $400 from every dealer in addition to other charges. Good Luck!

Does the dealership include lifetime warranty with their vehicles? My dealership included it and window tint. Also do you qualify additional discounts with Military or College Degree? If so, use it! But if no to all of above I wouldn't pay more than 16.9k and free tints.

We always email exactly what we want to all the dealerships and go for the low price. Dealers will also sometimes undercut each others' offer. When we get a solid offer, we arrange financing with our credit union and firmly refuse all the dealership financing smoke and mirrors.

Go to edmunds and submit for their price promise quotes. They will email you immediately. Dealers will start calling soon. Work with the lowest quote received and go for it if you are happy with that price. Not sure if dealers scam with add on items like in our place. Getting edmunds price promise quotes is a good starting point. If you go without anything to dealer, they are going to start from $21000 otd and make it very difficult to negotiate to reasonable price.

Hey everybody -- First post here on FF. I read through this thread as I am going to be buying a 2015 Fit EX MT later this week (tomorrow most likely). I'm in South Jersey (if anyone wants to comment about their buying experience anywhere in SJ PM me or reply, thanks).

Anyway, I got a couple of e-mail quotes...they all seem to be really close to MSRP. The dealers love to add on these "enhancement" kits...anyway to get around paying for this? At $895 I have a real problem paying for it as whats included is a bunch of crap.

The best email quote I have gotten is $18225 + TTL, which would come out to be close to 20K OTD. I haven't actually gone to the dealer, not sure exactly how willing they will be to haggle, I was looking to get OTD below 19K. I have 7K to put down and a 2006 Equinox with a bad head gasket to trade. I also have my own CU financing, 1.49% for 60 mo.

Any advice is appriciated.

Yeah I know they're playing games...I don't understand why they have to make buying a vehicle so difficult.

Does your CU have an auto buying service? You could also try Costco/TrueCar/Edmunds/Amex etc. where you get a supposedly final quote that they have to honor. I know people have had mixed results, but we've been pretty lucky - used USAA (basically TrueCar), and all of the dealerships ended up emailing quotes that were even lower than the original TrueCar one and none of that "obligatory package" nonsense.

Unfortunately the CU I am using doesn't have a program like that. One of the TrueCar quotes I got was for $17911.69, when the dealer contacted me "after he spoke with his sales manager," the OTD was just over 20K...I asked for the break down and he "could not provide that to me as his 'manager' did not give him the specifics." I told him to call me back when he had the breakdown.

Yeah, that's really annoying... Anther thing you can do is to plug in different zip codes around you (since it only gives you 3 dealerships that are closest to your zip) to see if anyone a little father away has a better price. I actually went on yelp to see which dealerships had the best reviews (lesson learned there: they all have 2.5 stars on average) and just used those zip codes for the search.

Also use a throwaway email address and google voice phone number so you don't get eight thousand calls/emails every night, but that's probably common knowledge.

Yeah, I noticed that almost all of the dealers that are on TrueCar/Edmunds are already about an hour away...sucks.

I'm going to try and do my best at haggling with the dealers that are close to home...I figure if I walk in with 70 $100 bills that may help my negotiating powers...

To be completely honest I don't think dealers really care how much you pay in cash, since they will have the rest of your money from the CU in just a matter of days... I definitely didn't feel like my $9K down payment helped at all, in fact I was willing to add more when the "in transit" car finally came in, but they wouldn't raise the limit they accept by credit card, so I put down less than I could have.

Hmm, in that case I would take that $17.9K TrueCar quote and send it around, specifying that that's with delivery fee included and see who is willing to match/beat it. I know that here in MA they are pretty eager to sell after a very slow January due to all the snow, but the legend is that end of month/quarter is when they get more flexible due to wanting to meet the numbers. Don't know how long you can wait, but if you don't get the price you want now you could try again in two weeks or so.

Yeah thats what I was thinking about doing. None of these guys want to do business via e-mail, its beyond annoying.

David McDavid Honda in D/FW
Red EX CVT with "mandatory" dealer add ons just like Ritholtz above - tint (never dark enough - would go darker in back), wheel locks, cargo tray (everything slides on this cheap thing - Weathertech would be better), pin stripe (nice, suprisingly), door edge guards (cheap plastic crap I might rip off - they don't even cover the entire length of the edges), splash guards (meh).
19,000 OTD. 2.25% financing, which is a bit high, but only $175 or so more over 5 years than the 2% would have been. Zero down. Yes, I turned down the ridiculously priced options. 7 years of cloth protection for just $750, if you buy now - I soaked the whole interior in 303 fabric guard the next morning for maybe $10?

If there are any options you are considering adding, price them from bernardihonda.com first. They have a nice list of the options all in one place on their site.

I'm planning to add X-pel clear headlight and foglight film (20% off coupon code SCCA and free shipping made it $53 after tax), and weathertech digital floor liners, which are just under $200, which is crazy, but our MINI still smells like spilled Gatorade from a year ago, so I'm good with that. Wife cooks a ton and transports food a lot, so, what are you gonna do?

Happy hunting, everyone!
DO you know who you dealt with? I live in Lubbock but will be in Dallas next month for the UFC event. There is no dealer competition in Lubbock so prices are stiff here. I sent an email to the dealership you dealt with requesting the same model with an OTD price offer of 19K and they came back at $1k more. I was thinking if I dealt with the same person you did I may have more luck. Thanks.

Yikes, sorry to hear about that! I had a couple of dealerships that wouldn't give me any firm answers by email, it was all "come on down and we'll definitely make a deal!", but the vast majority were great about finalizing everything by email. They must be spoiled in NJ...

I called them and ended up talking to the sales manager right off the bat. Unfortunately his name escapes me, at the moment. We agreed on the deal before I drove over there. My salesman was Michael Lee, but I didn't talk to him until I was there. They all did fine. I also got a close competing bid from John, I think it was, at Rusty Wallis that would have been $300 more.

Finally making some headway in the right direction, I got an offer for 19700 OTD at a dealership nearby using "internet pricing." Will see if I can get them to 19000 tomorrow when I go.
