Of course, I'm in this forum because I am trying to pick out rims, and am having a devil of a time doing that 15s or 16s, what offset, etc...wish there were more choices made specifically for the Fit. I don't like the HFP ones all that much, and they are spendy and heavy. And, my fit is the blaze orange, and not that many rims look like they would look good with the BOM. And like most reading the Fit Shoes section, I am fussy.

 

im looking for a set of rim and tire.rims i want to get the 16" or 17" and i would like to know how big and how width i can go with no rubs. the fact is i already loaded my car about 1.5". can anyone give me the size of the rims and tires? thank you

 

I ordered my rims on March 22nd, and they should be arriving stateside mid to late June. Pleeeeease hurry and get here Anyway, I am going to need different tires for my wheels. I am going to get 205/45/16" tires. I saw on Tire Rack that the customers rated the General Exclaim UHP #1 in many catagories, as well as #1 overall. Does anyone have experience with this tire? I have also looked at the Pirelli P Zero M+S. I won't be using the wheels or tires from mid October to late March or early April so an all season tires is not necessarry. I drive 107 miles round trip daily so tire wear has some importance as well as ride quality and noise. Yes, handeling is important too, but mainly the car's on cruise at 65 to 75 mph on some pretty boring straight roads. Any experience or advice would be appreciated!!

 

I went through the same search a few weeks ago, and narrowed the field down to the directional Kumho SPT, and the all season P Zero Nero and Kumho ASX.

I finally ruled out the SPT because I didn't want directional tires that can't be rotated side to side. Both the Pirelli and Kumho ASX got great ratings across the board, but I decided on the Kumho. The deciding factor was not the slightly lower price, it was weight. The ASX weighs a pound less than either of the other tires in the same size (205/45-16), so now I have a 16" setup that's over 4 pounds less per corner than the stock sport wheels/tires. The ASXes have been great.

 

What size tires should I go with for auto x? Can I stay with the 195/50/15 or should I go with 205/50/15? I am going to be using the stock 15 sport wheels but just want some better gripping tires. I heard that the 205's rub the strut in the rear.

I've had my Base Fit for about 6 months now, and drove almost 26,000 miles already. I rotate my tires every 5k miles and now the "shoulder" of the tires are really bald. The outside shoulder of all my tires are considerably worn compared to the rest of the tire. I've read a comment on TireRack that one person also had the same problem. I'm wondering if you guys also notice this or am I just taking corners too fast?

 

dont know what the problem could be, mine has like 4000 miles and are getting bold at the same place. Maybe is cuz streets here are way too hot here and could accelerate thread consumption IMO

 

I think the tires themselves are the problem. I've noticed them going bald at about 5000 miles, but constant rotation got me 25000. I usually get about 60,000-70,000 miles with good tires.

 

Tires that are included in new cars, especially more inexpensive cars have tires that wear out much sooner. Being agressive around corner helps wear down side walls especially when tire pressures are lower. With our front heavy cars, taking a hard corner at speed goes right after the sidewall.

When I chew through the stockers, I will replace them with a higher performance tire with a harder sidewall. In the mean time I will rotate the tires every 4-5k.

 

I'm actually getting Michelin Symmetry's from Costco tomorrow. Hopefully they'll last me longer as.

 

They'll last you longer but handle like crap. That tire is about as far from performance as you can get. If you can help it don't do it. Why are you buying tires from Costco?

 

i know that at least once a year, costco has some pretty cheap prices on tires. it's been a while but i think it was something around $250 for a set (depending on what tires of course). and yeah, don't go to costco if you want performance tires. but if you want reliable tires with long treadlife and warranty against nails and some other stuff then i'd say costco is a good place to go.

edit: hmm, maybe it wasn't a sale but you can get a rebate or something like that

 

I am a Supervisor/Tire Tech at Costco! Please stay away from the symmetrys! They are the one and only Michelin tire I would not reccomend! Costco is a great place to buy tires(I am trained to warranty stuff that I would NEVER do if it were my shop!!!) I know that you would be able to get the BFG KDWS NT in the 195/55r15 .It is a VERY good performance/all season tire! I hope they make the pilot sport A/S in our size when it comes time to replace tires,they are awesome. Great wet and dry,directional tread and a 45,000 mile warranty...for a all season performance tire it cant be beat! Costco is a GREAT place to buy performance tires,as long as you want great service and an unbeatable warranty/customer support! Its not just because I work there,I always bought my tires from Costco even before I started working there. If you guys only knew the training we go through,and Costco's strict policies,you would buy from us. I even bought my Krawler T/A's for my Jeep to run competition at Moab,and my TA Drag radials for my SRT-4 for semi pro Drag competition's...because of the great prices,they installed them on the wheels and then I would just bolt them on the vehicles and go!

 

Also,through the month of June, we will be running $60 off a set of 4 Michelin and select BFG's tires(I know it will be on the G Force Sports,KDW,and KDWS)


Forgot to mention,unless you are track driving for a 1/3 of those miles,you should not show wear on the outside edges,no stock tire could grip that hard. It is either a defect of the cheap dunlop tires or Fit's come with alignment problems from the factory! Take to the dealership while its still under warranty,and have them do a suspension check,and check your alignment.

 

I have 30,000 miles on my originals, and am not seeing any wear on the edges. Granted, I do a lot of highway driving, and have my tires inflated to 36 psi.

My originals should last ~ 45,000 miles. I'll be doing a rotation at my next oil change (I'm at 30% now) and none of mine are at the wear bars yet.

 

To everyone asking why I'm buying my tires from Costco, it's because they do a great warranty service on their tires AND I am not looking for performance (that's what my e90 330i is for ) with my Fit. I'm mainly looking for a real good mileage with my new tires. Besides, as Gent said, they're having a coupon starting tomorrow.

Gent: Would you recommend the more expensive Michelins? I've been calling Costco for a couple of days now, and the only tires that come in 175/65/14 are the two michelins, the symmetry and the more expensive one. I'm mainly looking for really good mileage on these tires (I drive about 60k a year, 50 fwy/50 city).

Which tire is it? If you just want a good tire for a daily driver, go with a BFG and save yourself some cash! Unless its the michelin X Radial,that is a fantastic tire,with a 80000 mile warranty!
