Juliane, I feel your pain.

But how the hell does he manage to hit a damn garage or not smell the burning?

He hit the guard thingie at Kroger, trying to get close to the pump to put gas in. They have these HUGE concrete upside-down u-shape stanchions in front of the pumps so you don't tear the pump out, you just tear your car up.

And he has no sense of smell thanks to his skull fracture several years ago - fell off his skateboard and the neurologist says it's quite common to lose your sense of smell. Sometimes it will come back over time, but his never has. At least he didn't die.

Now I have to get the windshield crack fixed AND figure out what the HELL caused that smell. Maybe he was burning the brakes? He said he tried to drive in sport mode - could he have burned up the tranny? Dear Lord, tell me the answer is NO!

I see... I'm fairly sure that most of those are painted in a bright color like a gloss red or yellow though. Every now and then one one could stumble upon a barricade of that sort still as unpainted concrete.

AH... that makes sense.

Well fortunately, if it isn't too bad some windshield companies can repair/seal the windshield for free. Your insurance company would just pay the bill because to them it would be cheaper than buying a whole dang window if it is repairable. lol Safelite for example does some pretty good work and have a few locations in Houston.

Edit: Also, check the exhaust for any plastic bags that caught it. They can cause a funky smell at times. As far as the transmission, in the morning (when the car is cold) check the smell of the and color of the fluid. If its smells burn, its of course burnt. LOL If its a dark brown or has black spotting in the fluid, it has experienced high temperatures (and likely smells burnt as well). Generally speaking, the 1st transmission fluid replacement for the A/T Fit is at 60k miles or 5 years, which ever comes first, and every 30k after that. If you've had it changed before be aware that next time it will cost more since Honda has ditched Z1 as its automatic transmission fluid for DW1 (which is their new backwards compatible synthetic). While you're under there, start the engine up and let it idle until the engine's fan kicks on twice. After the second time, shut it off and check the fluid level.

I don't have a glass policy and my deductible is $500, which is one reason we didn't claim the damage to the door. I know a guy on Westheimer that repairs cracks/chips, so I am going to see what he can do tomorrow.

As for the color of the barriers...they are painted red. He was leaving for school, it was dark, he wasn't paying enough attention, AND he was trying to get close to the pump. He got close all right. You know, it's kinda crazy but I got more angry at him for the windshield than I did the morning he smashed in the door...I think it's just cumulative and now it feels like every time he takes the car, something happens.

What would you think of first if you smelled a burning smell and an 18 male had just driven the car? Brakes? Maybe he had the e-brake on, no, that's got a warning bell, right?

I gotcha, I hope ya can get your Fit taken care of.

As far as the smell of burning brakes. Those have a really strong musty odor whenever the friction material is getting overheated... at least the stock pads from my personal experience. If you look at the image showing my fender's damage and take note of the brake disc, you can see that there is a slight (darker) discoloration on the inner circumference of the disc. That's there because I was a bit too aggressive on the brakes a few weeks ago during some shenanigans.

That photo? I can't see any discoloration, just the shadow of the wheels. Am I missing something?

I like your new wheels BTW.

It's most probably the brakes. Coming from an 18 year old, it is most definitely the brakes. Whenever I put my 3 into the sport mode I drive a bit more "spirited" lol.

And I hope the damage isn't too bad. I know my dad was pissed about my accident, but he was happy that I was fine in the end. And all the money came from my account anyway -__-

Its funny you mentioned that, every time I walk to the Fit and look at the fender I stop and think, "HEY, a widebody fender!" then get in and haul ass home. My foot's been a bit heavier and I've been driving a bit more aggressive since that happened. Don't quite understand why though.

No lie....when I first saw the pics I was like, hmm maybe I should throw some spacers behind my fender, EvoDave fender mod style.

As a 20 year old, I'm easier on my brakes than anyone else I know lol. For some reason, I'm addicted to minimizing input as much as possible.

Just finished "The Girl Who Played With Fire". Effing intense. "Dragon Tattoo" was good but this was amazing.

You need curves and corners to have to worry about. All I really have are straight lines and 90 degree neighborhood corners

I'm taking my hubby's new/used 2010 Rav4 to the mechanic today to get it checked out, we have 5 days to return it and I want to make sure it's A-OK. It's a one-owner but you just never know. So then I will take the Fit to the mechanic after that, well, after I take it to the crack repair guy. And if they say he's toasted the brakes, he's definitely paying for that.

He was all, "I love you Mom" last night. What a hoser.

I know a guy who was in a car accident and had his temple depressed. Now everytime time he eats... he cries. Seriously, eat food = crying. He cant help it. Its the weirdest thing to get used to.

Same here. As hard as I drive my car around town...and harder in un-developed subdivisions... I have never beat up my brakes. I engine-brake quite a lot too.

Oh and just get coilovers... you knowwwww you wanna

I DO, but I'm not sure I want to mod this car as it'll always be a slow FF hatchback; but the more I think about owning two cars, the dumber it seems.

My car is slow. But I don't care. It looks good, rides and handles well and takes everything I dish out. It's fun to mod and cheap to own. Love.

I don't care so much about the slow as the FF. I have to grown to HATE front wheel drive and everything that comes with it.
