I've owned too many cars to list here. I have pics of them all, however.

My first car was a 1951 Vanguard....it had turn signals that were little arms that came out of the side of the car. I remember the right turn signal always stuck in, so when I wanted to turn right I had to lean over and hit the inner post to make the signal appear. Very cute....they also lit up.

I just got back from 10 days in Vancouver, B. C. Many, many Fits up there...it is the perfect car for heavy traffic and tough parking conditions.

Hey Perrenoud Fit ,

Well done...that 1951 Vanguard looks super. The only thing I cannot see on that model are the turn signals that come out of the side post at 90 degrees.

As you noted, it was made by the Standard Motor Corp.

Mine was black.

Ok..last post for this evening, but an important one.

Here is the real scoop about turn signals and stop lights.
*****************
On December 28, 1938, the silent-film star Florence Lawrence commits suicide in Beverly Hills. She was 52 years old. Though she was best known for her roles in nearly 250 films, Lawrence was also an inventor: She designed the first "auto signaling arm," a mechanical turn signal, along with the first mechanical brake signal. She did not patent these inventions, however, and as a result she received no credit for--or profit from--either one.
Born Florence Bridgewood in 1886 in Hamilton, Ontario, Lawrence entered show business when she was very young: her mother, a vaudeville actress named Lotta Lawrence (née Charlotte Bridgewood), brought baby Florence on the road with her, sending her onstage as "Baby Flo, The Child Wonder Whistler." Lawrence got her first movie role in 1907 ("Daniel Boone") and in 1910 she became the first actress to headline a film by name. (Before that, she was simply known as "The Biograph Girl," for the name of her film studio.)
Because she was such a successful actress, Lawrence was able to buy her own car--a rarity in the early 20th century, when cars were still luxury items. She adored driving and loved learning all she could about the way automobiles worked. "A car to me is something that is almost human," she said, "something that responds to kindness and understanding and care, just as people do." In 1914, she developed a mechanical signaling arm that, with the press of a button, raised or lowered a flag on the car's rear bumper that told other drivers which way a car was going to turn. After that, Lawrence devised a rudimentary brake signal that worked on the same principle: when a driver pressed the brakes, a "STOP" sign flipped up from the back bumper. These inventions were enormously important, obviously--today, every car on the road has electrical turn signals and brake lights--but because she never bothered to file patents for her work, Lawrence never got the recognition she deserved. (Not that it would have made much difference: her mother, also an inventor, patented the first electrical windshield wipers in 1917 and never got much credit either.)

So basically, women inventors in the early turn of the 20th century got screwed over. Not surprising, since it took more than half a century more just to get voters rights.

On a slightly related note, I said during the democratic nominations, even though I thought Hillary Clinton was probably a better candidate, (hey, some would claim she was the actual president, not Bill. Lol) I figured Obama would win based on something unrelated to their "resume." If the past was any indicator, a "black" man would become president before a woman (look up voter's rights). Lo and behold.

Since I don't pay much more attention to politics... how is Obama doing?

women & minorities have always gotten screwed in this country.. they're still trying to catch up. The US was one of the last modern industrialized nations to end slavery and allow women to vote. Now we're one of the last modern industrialized nations to provide health care to all it's citizens.

Obama.. depends whom you ask.. obviously he could do a lot better, but lets face it, lobbyist's and big business run this country. anyways political discussions should be left for political forums, they get to heated because we're so divided.

Welcome ras. You look Portsmouth to Portland/Bangor?

I only know the Bangor parts guy and he is on track.
Service looks good as well, only you're down the other end.
