etf - howja like the corvairs? Had a 63 as my first owned car. Loved it and am still a big fan of Ralph, in spite of his ramblings.
H.B. bmxman you're just a kid - next year it comes. ;-)

08 Fit Sport
More wheels:
Early 1950's (1953? Sold) Mack B-series w/ quadbox 5 ratio main, 4 ratio aux two stick trans and two drive axles.
Never drove it on the highway though, wasn't old enough for CDL when I owned it. So it was an offroad toy we kept at my buddies lakehouse. Got it for $800 cash! When you were 15-17 would you turn down a fully functional running an old battle-tank looking semi-tractor if you had a place to drive it and hide it from your parents?

I learned how to drift with this car. The rear-engine/ rear wheel drive combination was just right for "tail out" cornering.
As far as Ralph Nader goes...I always thought he was a total whacko. He had some valid points about the dangers of a swing axle rear suspension that the earlier Corvairs had. But the Volkswagens of that era had the same setup and he never picked on them. I believe his attack on Chevrolet was politically motivated.
I really really really wanted one of those. You're so right on the driving fun. It was were I learned all about shifting, braking and keeping it on the apex. Also learned about guard rails but that was simply to keep out of the cow field LOL Cost me a rear quarter panel and two left side Firestone500 tires.
