MODS/ACCESSORIES for the GK
I LOVE THIS! It took me a minute to figure out exactly what I was looking at and how it was done, but I'm impressed. Super creative!
I like the feel of it, despite the fact that I have mini hands. It offers a little more cushion and girth, and you'd think that that'd be bad for a small grip, but it's surprisingly more comfortable.
It was a great buy for $12.99, and for some odd reason, Kmart didn't charge me tax when I ordered online and opted to pick it up and pay for it in the store. So if you have a Kmart nearby, it's a nice way to get your hands on a pretty cool cover, and maybe not have to pay tax, too.

This is very good for removing snow from the windshield, and the car in general. I've seen the local car dealers using them.
Amazon.com : Sno Brum Original Snow Removal Tool with Telescoping Handle : Snow Shovels : Patio, Lawn & Garden
Also, if the car is going to be left outside, and there is a possibility of ice or freezing rain, this type of windshield cover makes all the difference - no scraping.

We have a Hoppy much like that with foam rubber on both sides I stole out of the truck for the Fit. Gotta get another one for the truck, but all Hopkins has now is the one with bristles on one side.

Thanks for that recommendation. We'll need one of these with one vehicle being in the driveway this winter.
Edit: What's going on with quotes this morning?

Mod installs cont...........
Finally took out the seats yesterday and spent today on the final sound-deadening of the front and rear floors.

The LX has some from the factory so no point in overlapping it. After installing some CLD tiles, proceeded to finish it up with MLV and CCF.
Pic of what LX's rear seat floor area gets from the factory.

MLV and CCF installed rear floor and Front seat flooring with CLD tiles.

Right Front Seat MLV/CCF installed

REar seat MLV/CCF installed - top viewing toward boot area.

With the wife still in Tokyo, picked up my (pretty) niece who just came back. She brought me a surprise from the better half. OEM Sport Pedels. Had to install them and they turned out pretty cool.
The instructions were in Japanese but had her translate for me. What I dont' agree with is they suggest a 5mm hole for the rivets. I found that too big and used a 4mm drill instead. TIP: This is not an easy task if seats are in the car and I am not a big person. It took at least an hour.

Stereo component install will start after my Monday Night Football!!!

Pics coming for sure!!!
For all those planning a stereo mod, if installing upgraded speaker wires and you want to keep the OEM harness intact, Crutchfield says they have a HU speaker wire connector available for the GK. They don't.
Purchased one and its actually for the GD/GE which won't fit the new 5" or 7" radios with display. They are on it though, and should get back to me shortly. Had to supply them comparative pics.UPDATE: I stand corrected. Crutchfield sent the right part for a Honda Fit. Female portion was sent and the OEM connector would go straight in. Actual part needed was the male portion. Refund issued and the search continues. Just can't see myself cutting up into the factory harness (will have that "untidy" feeling plus, reverting back to OEM would be much simpler). The majority of neighborhood stereo install shops would have cut up everything by now!!!

Superfly is likewise doing ICE mods and we are sharing tips. He's got nice JL components!!!
As for pic quality, it ain't me, its the relative's borrowed SLR!!!

Very true about selling values. Nevertheless, plan to keep it for at least the next 8 yrs. Tend to keep my cars pretty long. This one will be the most different as I've never added so many toys other than stereo/speaker upgrades (which I do on most).
That is the exact harness and it fits. Its the female portion of the male plug that goes into the OEM HU. Its intended to mate with after-market HU's. In my case, am going to keep the factory unit. Need a male plug which I just found on Ebay!!!!

BTW, started ID'ng the factory wiring and laid out the wires from the HU going to the trunk to be connected first to the sound processor and then the amp. Both will be located on top of the spare tire.
More updates starting Monday - Rottboy

Where do you get those covers for the sides of the cargo area?
I love my new Fit, but I will say that I miss the hard plastic on the sides of my old 2006 matrix. Super strong and easy to clean.
Edited to say: I found the cargo liner...never realized it had sides too

If you want you can undo the factory harness to install speakers and return to stock to sell. I have posted some pics of how to undo the clips here:

That's a great tip.
In my case, will be re-wiring and using 14g. copper wire instead. Will still leave the factory harness in for future reversion back to OEM. BTW, feeding new wires through the door harness boot has enough space and not too difficult.
Thanks and keep updating.

Why not just use a high low adapter and tap in to the rear speaker signal for your amplifiers. If you're worried about voltage then install a crossover to boost the signal for the amps. Seems to me a much easier alternative than messing with wire harnesses since you're not changing out the factory head unit.
Definitely one way of doing it. Its a good alternative.
Mind you, am keeping the OEM HU because I want to keep the stock look plus retain all the other features (e.g. back-up, radio, trip info, etc.....). The sound quality is okay but nothing great and its pre-modulated at the factory to compensate for the OEM cheapo speakers. Tapping the speaker wires and hooking directly to an amp will give out the same embelished signal. Am after getting a flat signal, therefore, the sound processor before the amp. If you want to know the reasoning behind this just google Audison Bit Ten D and you'll have an idea of my strategy. Voltage is not an issue. Not after loud but looking for the cleanest attainable.
The wires are travelling more than 10 ft. to the processor (located on top of the spare tire). 14g speaker wire will not degrade sound as opposed to using the factory 18g wire. Also don't want to cut or tap any of the OEM wires. In addition, like to keep it neat and original. However, your right, its a lot more work, but then again, I do enjoy this and keeps me from drinking too much beer!!!!

Stereo install started
In between the football games today, since a couple of my teams didn't fare too well, decided to drown my sorrows by keeping the mind occupied and started on the wiring from the HU to the spare tire storage area.
HU wires will be connected directly to the OEM speaker connector for both the F & R speaker as well as the tweeters on top of the dash.

Wires in its own harness cover passing through the center console

Wires in harness cover to the spare tire cover

Tomorrow will finish up the layout of speaker wires to the doors (finished routing to the left rear door) and to the sub (under the right front seat).
Left rear door wire and speaker install:
Speaker wire from crossover fished through door grommet

Speaker wire through inner door grommet

Speaker wire loom covered

Speaker installed using adaptor brackets.

Speaker and crossover wired. Crossover will be installed on the pillar (middle portion) behind the seat belt. There's lotsa space there. Being very light, most probably will used industrial double-sided tape. Am not a fan of drilling when I don't really have too.

What model Polk speakers are you using? I have DB651 left over from another car. I never installed them. I'm hoping they'll fit. They 6", or so.
Am using DB6501 components speakers. Yours are 6.5" and they will definitely fit.
Unless you want to drill holes, you need to get speaker adaptor brackets for the Fit. Got mine from Crutchfield. Had to modify them slightly to get an exact fit. To make the brackets fit totally flush like the factory speaker, the top hole (for the retaining bolt) has to be enlarged slightly (lower portion). Had to Dremel off a small section of speaker's metal surround to allow the top retaining bolt to sit flush with the speaker base when screwed in.
The speaker adaptors, needs some type of padding on the rear (where the bracket touches the door body) or sound deadening around the door speaker hole to prevent rattles. I used CCF.
You might want to test before making any change permanent. Using the stock OEM HU, your Polks may be clearer in the mid and upper ranges but may suffer in bass without using an amp.
Good luck and post your install.

Have previously heard Polks on a GE HU (full stock and not amped). They're much clearer although the bass sounded downgraded from the stock speakers. Once amped, they sound way better than stock. Bass is very tight which is what I like.

As for appearance, just want it neat and clean. Its the final sound result which will be the telling moment!!!!
