How much did you pay for your Fit?
As near as I can tell, MA doesn't cap what they charge, but there's no law that says they must charge it. Think about it this way, if MA charged a fee for new car documentation, that would be part of the tax and title, not a separate line.
If it isn't paid to the state though, then its just a way of the dealer rigging the game.

Thanks for the advice.
Short version, the number you are negotiating on or comparing with others to see if its a good deal is the final dealer price after all his fees are added in.
This guy is in MA The Worst DMV (RMV) IN THE COUNTRY! The document fee is justified for all the paperwork crap we (insurance agents and dealers) have to do. We have to have an entire department with 15 people just to deal with all the crap MA throws at us. There's a reason most insurance companies don't want to do business with them. Then again we don't charge a document fee for insurance so why do dealers?

I went to 2 dealers in Mass about 30 miles apart. otd prices on both for a 2011 sport w/ at were $18950 .
Both dealers also said they can't go lower because they were "giving it to me" at cost. What to do? More shopping tomorrow

Look up the invoice price and show it to them. Bring research, itll show that youre not someone they can easily rip off. Also, try going at the end of the month.
Which dealers? Your best price more than likely will be from Boch Honda. I was quoted 15701 for a 2010 Sport Fit A/T......,AutoFair in Manchester NH matched the price so I bought there. I don't think there is over a 3000 dollar difference between the 2 model years.........then again the 750 debate was in effect too......
I wonder if dealers are taking advantage of the tragic events in Japan and the perhaps shortage of Fits coming up......
I went to Rockingham Honda to look at a 2010 TW Sport Fit about a month ago...they had just sold it and asked if I was interested in a 2011 Sport A/T at 17.4k.........so 18.9 seems preety steep....los if dealers in MA and NH to choose from.......good luck!(
There are a lot of Honda dealers in MA and NH to chose from
Bought a 2011 Fit Sport Auto yesterday in the Bay Area for $17040 base and $19000 OTD, until my dad was talked into the Honda Care extended warranty and the Karr system for an additional $2000 from the dealership. Realized we were drastically ripped off and the Karr system was misrepresented as it only included a shock sensor not a tilt sensor to prevent tire theft. Finance guy had even showed my father and I pictures of the wheels stolen off Fits in the dealer lot to convince us to go for it. In hindsight, if the Karr alarm system worked, why would their dealer wheels be missing...
FYI, look up how much you can get the Honda Care warranty at Honda Care Vehicle Service Contract from Saccucci Honda before you go in if you intend on buying an extended warranty. They will mark up the warranty price by 3x and tell you it's a good deal. Fortunately, Honda Care warranties can be cancelled within 60 days for a full refund if not used, but I am just aiming to get the dealership to reduce the price to match the Saccucci quote.
And for all future buyers, definitely do not fall for and get the dealership aftermarket Karr alarm. The dealers already pre-install them on all the cars -- they aren't installing them just for you. You can always install additional sensors at another location and for much cheaper.
Plan on going into the dealership tomorrow to sort this all out. I can update the forum on my results if anyone's interested.
Other than that, love the Fit and so glad I got it! Hope it'll last me for years! Plan on running it to the ground.
And dealers are definitely taking advantage of the situation in Japan. I had dealers increase their quote on me because of "uncertainty of stock."

Just got my 2011 Sport 5spd on tuesday I paid just over 17,500 OTD. My trade was worth 11,000 so I was only taxed on 6,000 which really saves a lot of money when you think about it. I didn't add any extended service plans or anything either.
Hi:
Just bought a 07 base model for $5,200.00 at an insurance auction.
I have gotten salvaged title cars this way for years.
My ex had a habit of crashing cars and it just seemed simpler to pick the point of impact, rather than having it happen randomly and losing money when it happened.
This is replacing a 318IS BMW bought at 22,000 with all repairs done and paid 13K.
The head gasket went at 166,000 and I just don't want to do the work to fix it, plus regrind valves and it should have other work done... I have had my fun anyway.
The “New” Fit has three holes, one on front left bumper and two in roof from an acid burn.
I will post pictures later, but less than $20.00 in parts if I don't redo replace the roof liner. Add couple hundred bucks if I do.
Actually I have the body filler & clear coat, so just need to get paint to match paint code.
With an auction there was an additional $400.00 in fees and it has a salvaged title.
I have done this before and a salvaged title does not have to “kill” resale value.
I do not expect to get the market rate, but if I take a sixty or seventy thousand mile test drive, ask the buyer if maybe I have found the problems.
I will photo the car before since there was so little damage.
With the Fit project I do not have any large paint areas, or replace exterior body parts, so I am in very little labor.
So yes I am overall happy with the deal I made, but I might sell (and make a profit) and get a different vehicle off an auction.
Really do not know yet, I might drive it for sixty or seventy K and then sell it.
For all the Fit lovers, they are great little efficient vehicles.
What I do not get is why more people chose debt over doing car deals that I do.
PS. There is always a risk reward ratio with any trade.
I could get the last car deal wrong, and do a second deal and still be in the retail price area.
5,200 + 5,200 = 10.4K slightly higher than retail.
If the trani or engine goes tomorrow I am still money ahead, except possibly resale value.
In either case I have put about 500 miles on the car and it seems fine.

I trade my 03 Tacoma 75K miles for a 09 Fit Base 8K miles trade value $10,750 and and $4000 for the rest, great deal for me.
Just got the recall done last week it was fast only 2 hours and the Honda guy is a friend of my , great job! thanks... for the tech Joe Gionatto at the Honda at the avenues in Jax Fl.

Got and '11 Sport A/T in Vortex Blue for $18,000 and 0.9%APR. The funny thing is that they had some '10's left over and sticker price on those were $18,010. So sticker on an '11 was only $450 more for a year newer, didn't seem like such a great discount for year older.
Advice please: Used 2009 Fit Sport Automatic (no navi)
I am looking to purchase a used Fit from dealership in NJ. It is a Black 2009 Fit Sport Automatic (no navi) with 30,500 miles. Will probably pay cash. Dealer wants $12,690. Been on the lot for over 2 months now. Carfax is clean. He won't come down to 12,000 but I wonder if $12,690 is too high for a 2+ year old vehicle? Maintenance records look fine but it does need the spring recall done.
Thoughts?
