june 25, 2011 virginia beach, va
2011 fit sport

a/t
extended warranty
traded in 08 miata for 500 over what owed on it
otd 19,600 (6 miles on odom ,3 was from our test drive )
qualified for 0.9% financing but after added in extended warranty opted for 2.9% so could keep payments same as would have been with 0.9% and no extended warranty.

I turned down $14,000 for a new 2010 base model, manual transmission last year (I thought that was too much $$ - what did I know? First time trying to by a Honda).
I just agreed to purchase a used 2009 sport, manual transmission, fully loaded, with kayak rack and second set of rims with studded snows. 52K miles. It is in excellent condition (very clean), dealer maintained, has transferrable 100k extended warranty. Was rear-ended a year ago, minor damage was repaired, repair guaranteed for life of vehicle (work done by dealer). $13,500.
Good deal or no?

Had a difficult time finding a dealer that would negotiate on a 2012 Honda Fit Sport A/T here in the San Francisco Bay Area owing to the initial scarcity of these. They just began arriving in some of the local dealerships yesterday.
Price was $18,100 before fees and state taxes. That's only $169 below Edmunds's calculated True Market Value for the San Francisco Bay Area but at least we got the color (Polished Metal Metallic) and trim level that we wanted. My guess is that the price will drop further over the coming months.
The dealerships are obviously more willing to offer deals on the 2011 models and those now have 0.9% financing. Every dealership tried to steer us towards the remaining 2011 inventory.
The Orangeburst Metallic models are among the most common 2011s on the lots and the prices are the lowest on those. Lucky you if you like that color.

I wish I was seeing some of that discounting here on the east coast. Best I have seen ( AT w/dest and other bs, no tax) is 18,250 on a blue one. Another quoted 18,600. Those prices are extremely disappointing given they both have stock and are expecting additional stock in the next few days.

I couldn't wait "a few more days". I needed a car for my work commute, I wanted the sound-dampening of the 2012, and the only color that I could get mutual agreement on for our household was grey. My hands were tied.
I bought a 2011 TW Sport AT.
It has Lo Jack on it and thats about it.
I got it for 21.3k OTD. Did I over pay?
Btw the car is from Satoyama Japan if that makes a difference.

I wouldn't worry about it though- just enjoy your nice ride
The car did come with the wheels locks and the rear bumper applique. They were unnecessary but I was in a rush to buy one since I was tired of borrowing my moms Fit. I do feel like I overpaid but I guess its ok; its a nice and fun car for many years to come.

My final purchase of a 2012 Fit Sport AT today ended with $18,100 AND 0.9% financing for 60 months. You can read the details by following that hyperlink.
This was due to a mistake by the dealership. But the important thing is that they made it right by acknowledging their mistake and honoring the agreement. I give Honda of Stevens Creek five stars for doing the right thing!

This was clearly a one-off thing. It's unlikely they'll make the mistake again. Still, I'm glad they kept me whole.
