Got my jdp duck bill painted Tafetta White and added some rally armor mudflaps.

New Life Auto Collision in Montclair?
How much did he charge you this time?
What kind of paint (brand) did the body shop use?

Sorry for asking so many questions
but
I want to paint my JDP Carbon Fiber Vented Hood but someone informed me that I better wait until 6 months to 8 months before I paint the carbon fiber to make sure the resin is fully cured, otherwise, if I paint it now, I risk having some kind of cracks on the paint when the resin cured later...

I purchased the duckbill used from another member on the forums. It was already a few years old.

All of JDPs products are fiberglass but with the option of having a carbon fiber overlay.

Mine was/is the carbon fiber version but my rear diffuser is just fiberglass.

Yes, New life auto collision. He charged me 150 for the spoiler. Not sure on the paint, but its color matched to Taffeta white. He fixes all the Hondas from the montclair Honda dealership.

I will make one note, he did have to paint it twice, because the first time the carbon fiber weave was still showing through very lightly. He said because of the resin the paint had a hard time adhering to the surface. He also said Taffeta white and milano red are the only single stage paints that honda uses and that also might be why it had a hard time covering in a single coat.

I have never heard of any issues about having to let resin cure for 6 months. I would do some more research if thats is true or not. Maybe the paint shop you went to just didn't want to paint the cf. Its not like painting regular metal or plastic.

I would say go to New life Auto collision and ask him to look it over and see what he thinks. My guess is it would be maybe 300-400 to paint the hood. But cash talks. And let him know Chris sent you.

Thank You so much for your information,
I still have to wait about 6 months because
first I ran out of budget for painting (I reallocate it to finish my oil cooler project)
second, I just bought 3M 1080 Carbon Fiber White Vinyl Wrap from eBay (cheap only around $70 for 5ft x 4ft) for temporary solutions until I have money to paint it,
but when I am ready to paint I will be sure go to Arturo to get a quote from him.

Those flaps looks great. Make me wanna get some....relatively inexpensive visual upgrade. Makes the rear base mud flaps not stick out so much without the oem fronts.

Any tips on installing them?

 

Did you have to take off the spoiler and remove the 3m tape? if so, what did you use to remove the tape..

I've always thought about painting mine from the get go and it looks really good on your car

Thanks! Install wasn't too bad. Use 3m mounting tape to tape the mud flap to the oem mudflap so it gets the right curve shape.

Then use 4-5 black screws to drill into the mud flaps. I only had to remove the back two wheels, but you can turn the front wheels enough to fit a drill gun in there.

I bought the spoiler used so it no longer had any the original tape. But you can use a heat gun and a little bit off goo gone of good off. Be sure not to leave the heat gun in spot to long or you could burn the paint. Always keep it moving and just enough to make the tape sticky again.

 

I changed the oil and then cleaned the garage, found a PasswordJDM oil cap that i had laying around from my Civic Si and thought, eh why not, I think it looks pretty good.

I had been upgrading my Big 3 wiring from the old Audio Technic
Copper Coated Aluminum to Rockford Fosgate True OFC Oxygen Free Cooper wire...

the old Audio Technic actually was thicker wire (oversize 1/0AWG)...
but it's prone to overheat (it once did few weeks ago and ruin my family travel)...
so I decided to go with True OFC cable... also 1/0 AWG...
now this one being true 1/0 AWG (not oversize) was so much easier to push
into the distribution block or ring terminal... I wish I wasn't cutting cost (AKA cheap) long time ago when I buy the Audio Technic...

I am still not done yet... but the hardest part which is the wire from alternator to the main distribution block/circuit breaker is done...
notice I orient the wire so it show the Rockford Fosgate emblem on it,
I will update my Big 3 wiring thread later when I am done...





Also I order this emblem and it just arrive, I plan to install it later after I done
with wrapping my hood with 3M 1080 White Carbon Fiber Vinyl (also just arrive)

It's a Mitsubishi Evo X "Final Edition" Emblem and I plan to attached it on the hood behind the vent...

My philosophy is, Good Artist Copy, Great Artist STEAL,
since I am Great Artist Wannabe, so I steal this emblem for my Honda Fit ... beside I already STEAL the Supercharger emblem from Audi so why not Mitsubishi ,...
it looks very nice though

 

I won't say anything about about using the Mitsubishi emblem...but why Final edition? They still produce Fits.

Honda Fit edition ends with GE, thus FINAL edition for me

Personally, it looks even better in real world, my iPhone camera just could not catch the whole color nuance and depth and contrast from factory Taffeta white at the fender to the semi matte white carbon fiber (dry carbon look), to the JDP black shiny carbon fiber finish behind the vent and the metallic emblem with Red lettering...

He is super friendly young guy who had been doing this for the past 8 or 9 years. He gave me some honest advice over email, and he also a car enthusiast. I think his price is reasonable too.
He told me that he did do wrap for several fitfreak member in the past,

Man, I like it. Not sure if I like it more than the black on mine since I don't have a vent to offset all the white, but I like it on yours with the black vent.
