Personally, I don't think paying MSRP is all that bad for this car if you want a MT and a specific color. Sure, you hear reports of people getting great deals but it all depends on the location, supply, color, etc. You can't get blood from a stone so if you want a car in short supply, you gotta make it worth the dealer's while because they will have another buyer in a day or two.

I was tracking cars and white MT Fits in my area were not on the lots for very long. This is what I paid a month ago and it may not be a great price but I was happy with the deal and I am not sure I could have done much better if I had stood on my head.

2010 Taffeta White Fit Sport w/MT
- Honda carpet mats and wheel locks installed
- VIN etch--at first I refused it but later relented on this to get the deal done...I was not blowing this car off for $189
- Dealer Fees & Conveyance
- Sales Tax: 6%
- DMV reg and new plates per dealer
-----------------------
Total OTD: $18, 698

If you consider that over $1000 of that is state tax, I think it's not a bad price.
I have only had 2 cars in 20 years, so I felt like it was worth it to pay MRSP to get exactly what I wanted. I had to have the Blackberry Pearl MT Sport. At no point in the past few months did any dealer in my area have a MT, and I only saw one AT Blackberry Pearl. I could have gotten an AT in silver for the MT price, but for me saving that $800 was not worth getting a car that was not a manual.

I plan to drive this car for at least 10 years, so perhaps that it why I am not as concerned with price (as long as I don't way overpay). By ordering the exact car I wanted I do realize I gave up some negotiating power. Total price is $17,120 + tax and title, which for my area is under $900. I did get them to give me $800 toward my old car, which is a 16 year old Corolla with over 270,000 miles and I would say is in poor shape (oil leaking, paint pealing).

Bought my Blue Sensation Pearl 2010 Fit AT at the beginning of December. Got it for $15,700 + tax, tag, etc. I added on the security system/keyless entry for around $500 installed, so sales price was about $16,200 with that. Dealer had already added splash guards and pinstripe (will probably delete that soon). I'm very happy with it. It's my first new car and I plan to drive it for at least 15 years. My previous car was a 1994 Acura Integra LS, MT, with 135,000 miles on it. Very sad to say goodbye to the 'Teg, but it sure is nice to have a brand new car. The Fit may not be quite as exciting as the 'Teg, but it's a heck of a lot safer and will save me money on maintenance.

the reason that I'm asking why so many people are paying MSRP or willing to pay that makes life for guys like me harder. I noticed an arrogance when talking to the some salesmen that they knew there was always in idiot that they can profit off of. The economy hasn't fully recovered and for the last couple of quarters, Honda has been dropping there earnings. Thus we have the advantage because they need us buying more. So idiots paying full MSRP throw off that balance....

What I see at the Honda dealers are a large number of Civics and Accords they will deal on and a couple Fits they know will sell quickly so they have no need to do any real discounting. At least they got a new $500 incentive on the Fit today, which will help me this afternoon clawing for whatever deal I can get on a 2010 Sport AT. The 1.9% and 2.9% apr went away yesterday. I'll buy the car today if the dealer doesn't piss me off. I hate car dealers...

I had a pretty good buying experience by dealing mostly online, and getting quotes from all the Honda dealerships in my area. And don't be afraid to walk away. The economy is bad, and even though dealers don't have many Fits, they don't have very many customers either so they should be pretty happy to have a warm body on the lot. At least that was my experience.

+1 This was exactly my shopping experience.

Lucky Charms, I am in the same boat and could not agree with you more. My last car, which I still have, I bought in 1991 (Accord). It's no point sweating out a few bucks when you plan to keep a car a long time. Get EXACTLY what you want (color, tranny, options, etc). You will be happy with your car long after the few extra bucks you may have spent are nothing but a fleeting memory.

And MT fits are hard to come by in my area (at least they were when I got mine). So you can bargain all you want and but dealers are not letting them go below a certain price because they have buyers. My local Honda dealer had TWENTY (yes, 20) AT Fit on the lot and ZERO (yes, 0) MT Fits. Demand, meet supply.

I will not hesitate to walk away if they won't deal - they can wait for the next person to come into their empty sales floor in the 20° winter weather. They do need me more than I need them, and I have a decent quote from a dealer 20 miles away if the local dealer doesn't want to play ball. No games for me - I'm too old for that shit.

I don't think I am an idiot as explained above, and some people have different circumstances (location, time of the year) that may make it difficult to haggle. As with know-nothin there were no manuals in my area, so it was hard to negotiate based on inventory. I could have gotten a great deal, but then I would be driving a car that I was not completely happy with. In my case I believe the amount I got for my old car (which had no trade in value) was the same as getting the car at or below invoice.

From what I am seeing on here and online we are only taking about hundreds of dollars versus thousands. For me personally it was worth the extra money to get exactly what I wanted since I will have it for a long time.

Hey twliz, is the $500 incentative locally, or is that a national promotion? I did not see it on the Honda site. My car is coming in this month, so want to make sure I get it if it applies to me.

well, when we bought our fit, there weren't and still aren't any 2010 fits on the lot period. So I guess w/e we paid for it is good. basically we got about 200 off mrsp with door guards included for a storm silver AT with Nav. I felt that was a good deal.

Amen brotha.
There were no MT fit Sports within 250 miles of my location. I did 95% of my dealings online via email, using 5 local dealers. I ended up going 40 miles out of my way to the dealer tha treated me right--they offered the lowest quote intially. Then, when all of the MT fits in my area sold out in one day--they obtained one for me and I paid the shipping cost (by truck) of 311 bucks to get the car from about 400 miles away. Even with this added cost, the price still came in under MSRP so I bought some accessories--they matched the College Hills Honda prices. Plus they gave me $1000 for my trade--which was essentially worthless since the parts and labor it needed were more than than the value of the car--not to mention the failing water pump--It limped to the dealership.
Plus, I had the best dealer experience ever. I used to work at dealers as a detailer while in H.S., I am familiar with the shady tactics used. My dealer gave me no BS, his numbers all made sense--I tried to catch him in a lie and couldn't do it. Plus he was a Miata geek like me--I checked out his previous two Miatae via feacbook. I still wonder if it was all a dream--because buying my wife's Matrix two years ago was such a clusterf__k.

Every market is different--and some if us aren't willing to settle for something we don't want (i.e. an auto trans car). I got the 1.9% financing on EXACTLY the car I wanted--plus I got it on NYE so I can still get the sales tax deduction from the recovery act.
I paid 311 bucks for shipping and still got a deal that I'm quite satisfied with. Sure, I could've spent more time to eek a better deal on a car I don't want--but I've got better things to do with my time. Time is money--especially when you have a job and a two-year-old. I am very satisfied with the deal I got. That doesn't make me an idiot.
You must remember that every situation is unique--and that some people are worried about bigger things in life than being called an idiot by someone on the internet who got a better price on a different car in a different market at a different time under different circumstances.

Hey all,

First post here. Sorry if I'm repeating posts or whatnot. I just ordered a 2010 Fit Sport AT in "Crystal Black Pearl." Couple questions, Will wheels/rims designed for the 2009 fit on the 2010? and Where do you guys get aftermarket accessories i.e. lights and badges? I've been looking for a while for these things, but I don't see a whole lot of selection for specifically the 2010, are the 2010 and 2009 so close that nearly all aftermarket parts are going to be cross compatible?

Thanks,

Dave

The $500 incentive is from Honda for all new '09 and '10 Fits in the US, it started up right after the 1.9% and 2.9% financing deal quit on Jan. 4

I actually ended up buying a new '09 instead of a '10 because the '09 was Orange Revolution Metallic and the '10s were all silver or that pastel blue color. It also saved a few hundred more bucks - and I do not know of any differences at all between the '09 and the '10 model Fit. Are there any?

There's no difference between the 2009 and 2010 models.

The only thing I could find was that the '09s have a quick start booklet that the '10s do not have. That is about as close to no difference aas it gets.

2009 = manual w/navi was an option

2010 = if you want navi, you must go auto. no more manual/navi option.

2010= mpg gauge is updated

Is this confirmed? On my 2010 the gage has been dead accurate to the exact digit (i.e. 40 on the gage and 40 by manul calculation, 41 and 41).

Nice if that's the case.

Does anyone else find it odd that the Fit does not come with floor mats? My salesman did not tell me until it was prepped and I was ready to drive off the lot. If I knew that I would have to spend $100-200 for mats I would have negotiated some into my price. Plus, living in Cleveland with all this snow and salt you would think that the dealer would provide something. I love my Milano Red AT Sport, which I picked up on New Years Eve, however, I think the lack of floor mats still irks me. Now I am looking at some mats and would like some opinions. There are the Honda factory carpet and all-weather mats, the WeatherTech digital ones, and the Mugen ones.
