That sport to base bumper swap isn't that bad of an idea.... definitely will save on cracked foglights.

I see a lot of people putting on Bilsteins too.... can't wait to get mine.

I gave my new daily wheels a cleaning yesterday, now gotta polish them.

Looking forward to learning this car!
That is exactly the same thing that happened when I got my Fit 5 years ago.... We still have the truck.... I drove it 100 miles yesterday and probably will at least 90 miles today or tomorrow.. I couldn't live on a hill in the woods without a crappy old truck and a very pampered 4wd tractor with front loader.

Today I ordered the Swift springs and Progress anti-sway bar.

I can't bear to get new tires with only 425 miles on the
stock ( Fit Sport A/T 2012 ) tires.

Sunday I took off the front license plate holder and filled
the *&% hole that they drilled in the front bumper with a
plastic push in fastener after painting the fastener with a
couple of coats of touch up paint.

I guess the proof will come when I take the car to the
auto wash place...

I did the Samething with a push button and the paints still like the first day. Multiple auto/hand washes

Well, the problem is the so-called "current generation," are becoming more and MORE "lazy as f***."

Okay, I'm a hypocrite, because I'm even lazier...

But very few people I know (outside of this forum) drive manual... and they even REFUSE to learn.

I refuse to drive a slush box automatic. Every manual I've owned has required no maintenance other than a clutch change late in it's life.

Meanwhile every automatic car my wife has owned has required multiple transmission replacements.

Cars are a huge money hole as it is, no need to toss more money in the pit needlessly.

But cost is only one aspect of it.

Hell, to tell you the truth... I didn't consider it... nor do I particularly care even now.

I broke the transmission on a Mazda MPV... or let's be more precise, the transmission broke as I was about to drive it (started backing out of the garage, heard a loud noise, and that was it). I've had a radiator blow its top on a Honda Accord (the top managed to dislodge itself from the fin section by a good 1/4"). An exhaust fall out from under the car (broke just behind the cat).

Things happen... planned or otherwise.

I view driving a manual, for the general populace as one simple thing. If you can drive a manual, you should be able to drive just about ANY car (driving an automatic should be simple, right?). Like say, your friend drives, in his car, you and buddies to go out drinking. But you are the only sober one and his car is a manual. But people view it as: "no need to toss more effort in the pit needlessly."

As for it being a "slush box," well... again, within the general populace, it only matters to people that even think about HOW you get from point A to point B. Too many people just want to get there and don't care how.

If everyone drove a stick there would be a great reduction in cell phone related traffic accidents...

Plus manual tranny is lighter and easier/cheaper to work on. Nothing against automatics tho...

My wife, my 2 grown kids, my 14 year old grand daughter and I can all drive manuals.

I have owned "mostly" manuals through my life. I just a bought a 2012 Fit AT, and will likely only drives automatics the rest of my life.

A rebuilt shattered left ankle (broken/fixed in 1984) is becoming worse as I age - just can't take it anymore. Sold a great 2005 Subaru WRX modified turbo manual in order to buy this automatic.

One good thing is that the AT is geared taller for lower RPM at hiway/freeway speeds.

I agree... at least on the first part. But then again, I have caught myself trying to fidget with my phone/radio/food once in a while. I have a bluetooth headset, just forget it at home once in a while.

I'm not a mechanic, so I have don't have anything to say about the second part.

You can look up both a manual and automatic transmission for the Fit on Bernardi and see how much more there is to the automatic. Or a simpler way of thinking about it is that the auto has essentially all the same parts as the manual PLUS everything needed for the car to change gears itself, not just a stick inside the car for you to do it. It's not a HUGE deal weight wise, at least for a daily. Weight reduction always helps tho, whether you're trying for lap times or you just like fuel economy.

That wasn't my point.

I'm not a mechanic, so therefore I don't have to contend with doing the actual repairs. As for cost of an actual mechanic... I don't care.

I will do what is needed, when its needed (even as preventive) regardless of whether it's an auto or manual, my hatchback or my sister's SUV/minivan. Only making sure that I'm not "raped" by the mechanic's prices. Getting a "fair" enough deal for the circumstance at hand.

No way. A typical automatic transmission can have 900-1000 parts, not counting bolts. They use planetary gears, much more complex than the shaft cluster in a manual. Not to mention the hydraulics systems manuals don't have.

Manuals are downright primitive comparitavely speaking.
