The shifter was creaky and a bit sloppy. Always felt like I was fighting it.

Center console removal is a phillips head under the far rear pocket, two plastic flat heads at the front corners(pull sides slightly if spinning), armrest removal(12mm under snap cover), un-spin shift knob, and two snap-clips pull up in the center with a yank.

First vaccuumed it out using brush to dislodge and get the gunk out..
Using fingers and a toothbrush, I lubed every moving point with some Lucas NLGI #2 marine grease with Calcium Sulfonate which is supposed to be plastic friendly.
White lithium spray for the tight parts. Wiped off extra because grease attracts dirt.

The ball and mechanism are still worn out, but the binding is completely gone at least.
It shifts smoothly after an easy fix. What an improvement for only a 1/2hrs time.

I already had a new clutch put in this high-mileage car but shifting still needs improvement when winding it out,
Instead of new motor mount bushing$ I wanted to try packing the transmission side with the 3M WindowWeld hack (per a YT video), which is supposed to tighten it up.
(Be careful when using this stuff. Anything it touches will be permanent.)
I'm hoping this fixes it but the rear mount may be the cause.

The trans mount had some minor cracking but it looked pretty good actually.
I washed it with hot water and toothbrush and then used a compressor to dry it off.

It's back in the car awaiting a first drive. I want the goop to set up longer than overnight and still have it resting softly on the jack today.
All bolts got generous copper anti-seize which helped 'em slide in,
You'll need 10mm, 12mm, and a 14mm socket. Plus a 3", a 6"wobbly (for rear of batter tray) , and a 12" extension. Plus a 14mm wrench.
A zip tie keeps the + battery cable up out of the way.

The only difficult part was this 14mm bolt from hell (red arrow).
The sides block any use of a box-end, and a socket wrench barely fits in that space with two clicks to spare. Going from underneath requires shield removal and it may not line up.
I used the jack incrementally to carefully line it up. Leaning on the front with the right hand snaked inside barely allowed finger-tightening for most of it.

While "in there" I sprayed everything I could with Fluid Film lanolin wax (menards) and wiped it all down. Rust is a concern here.
It does stay sticky, though, and will probably collect dirt over time. Maybe this was a mistake.

The work table and a rare beautiful day before the cold season made it a nice day. Can't wait to drive it.

When I bought the car, the fan didn't work.........a very common problem for these cars.
I replaced the transducer, which turned into smoke on the very first drive. Then I replaced the fan plus the transducer.

An oh duh moment followed: Replace the cabin air filter ya dummy!
The sides of the glove box push in and it folds down. The clogged filter was right there and slides right out. No tools required.
It's literally a one minute job and saves the fan system.

I've been doing some research into getting new tires. Reading through a bunch threads on here....y'all just said screw the manufacture recommendation I'm going to put on the tire size I like. It seems like the majority of people on here went with a tire size other than the 185/55. I'm too scared to try such a thing.

I run some 205 tires on stock Sport rims. No problem. Better handling, a lot more choices also.

You said it yourself... its a recommendation.

It's not a requirement.

To say that people are saying "screw the recommendation" is also unnecessarily making a negative remark about people, especially if you consider that 185/55 (stock for Sport) is not exactly a common size that some local shops carry. So some people don't even get that choice.

Most of the non-stock size that people use are 205/50/16, which is BECAUSE its in consideration of the stock size, since the overall diameter is close to being the same with width change that is acceptable by reputable tire shops (like tirerack, which sells the OE tires for more than the 205/50 tires I bought). Potential loss in fuel economy is usually offset by better traction (unless you buy garbage tires). For me, better traction equals more confidence in what my car can handle, especially when some moron decides to suddenly cut me off and force me into swerving and/or slamming on my brakes.

If you want a size that is NOT in consideration, then you can try 305/60/20 then (not that would actually fit without body work and other things).

I mean, you being scared to try it is one thing. But to say others are saying screw it is a bit much.

PS, if you're scared of the size change most of us use, you'd better pray to never get a flat tire. That donut spare tire is not only different in tire width, but also diameter. Additionally, that width is worse if you look at the actual tread face.

A lot of us use the 185s because it’s the largest tire you can put on the stock base 15” rim, and they’re a lot more choices of tires in that size ,Very few tire shops stock a 175s that come stock on the base Fit,

My Base '09 is still on 175's and I love them. A little squirrely over 75 mph, but w/e. Lots of fun in the rain.

How do the Hawk pads and Stoptech rotors compare to Power Stop brand?

Not sure. I haven't even bedded these ones yet. I've never used Power Stop, but I had a few sets on Hawks with Brembo blanks on my RX7 and really loved them. Stoptech seems to understand basic iron rotors as well as anyone else.

Really easy. hardest part is prying off the dash and putting it back on when you are done. which isnt hard either. buffing by hand with Plastx works too...just a bit more elbow grease. when cleaning the inside of the clear plastic cover, i recommend washing it with soft cloth and Dawn dish soap, then drying it with a lint free cloth. the last time i cleaned mine i used window cleaner and it looked good for a few months, then it started getting wipe marks from the inside. this time after washing and drying, i blew the last of the lint off the clear panel and gauges with a can of compressed air, like the ones used for cleaning computers etc.

So, since the amount of air the GE8 HVAC blows is crap...I decided to try a hack i thought of about a year ago. not sure why i put it off considering how much i wanted to do this, and removing the console only takes like 2 whole minutes. anyways, heres my mod to improve airflow to the front passengers. it consists of creating a block off using duck tape on the chamber that feeds the 2 rear floor vents under the seats. this mod is not life changing, but definitely glad i did it. front passengers now gain 32% more airflow when the mode selector is set to Head/ Feet.

Ill post more pics info in my thread

Halo Fog lights and updated front look

So the girl doesn’t wanna drive the Fit !!!
My 18 year old UCSD sorority girl (might be a bit picky and definitely takes after Dad. Her first car- wasn’t even a car.
She wanted a father/daughter restoration Jeep.
The Hell !!! After 2 years, 2 engines and $8k. We sold a pristine (nearly) 1991 Yj to my buddy. She went and bought an AWD Traverse.
Recently, she inherited a stock 2010 base model, light blue with a wapping 26k miles (from my friend). It has been parked for the most part of the last five years-CANCER SUCKS.
I gave it a tune up/check up and drove for a week-too ensure [ttbomk]. She drove to her on campus job. Only to inform me the next day-that lights sucked and she doesn’t like or wanna drive it.
CUZ IT’s TOO NERDY LOOKING!
That said,
I’m STILL in process of giving the lil bugger a make-over. I admit- it’s taking too long. I get distracted [got a new puppy] and Custom Jackwagon-ing....takes time.
The plan: Sum done.
New LED headlights, halo fog lights, grille work, upgraded lighting wires to 12ga and 14ga with relays, gave the front plate a proper spanking (phase one).
Next, cold air intake, exhaust12” sub into spare tire area, stereo, speakers, amps,?alarm, keyless entry, 2”-3” lift bigger tires, paint- the new Honda Slate grey. Spoilers & Yada, Yada, Yada the usual.
I love the little thang. It zips. She may loose it.

stock

‘91 YJ father/daughter project ...hahaha Dad project for daughter.

After a few BDSM sessions.

I sprayed 3 cans of Fluid Film on the under carriage of the '12 to help keep the inevitable Ohio rust at bay. Also put the winter wheels/tires on.

Sanded and buffed the yellow headlights with a 3M headlight restoration kit. I took my time, and they look great now.
