555sexydrive Work In Progress
Well the final piece of the tranny puzzle arrived this morning.

Here it is all Trojaned, Lifestyled or whatever your fancy of brand is...

Damn it really sucks I wasn't able to have this, the diff and clutch installed prior to the Suzuka event on Wednesday, but there is always a next time.

The 3 are about ¥26000, current exchange is $1=¥77. About ¥3500 cheaper than the stock price listed by Okuyama. Just found out their shop is only like 7 miles from my place, so I'm going to head over there in the afternoon and look into if they will make up a FIA cage for the GE, they do one for the GD. Maybe they may go for it after seeing that my Fit is used not like the majority of them.

Well they (Okuyama) weren't interested in doing a one-off cage to FIA spec, unless I was ready to pay a very heavy price, plus they are overwhelmed with vehicles right now because race season is over for most specs and many teams are gearing up for the coming seasons. Very nice work done at the shop though. They had a completely gutted R35 on frame turners and were putting in a really nice cage. And a Suzuki Swift was getting outfitted for the next race season, the driver/owner of the car who has won the last 2 DART championships was there. Really nice staff, Kishi-San who is their web designer is who I was talking to there. I also asked if they would consider making the GE8 front strut tower out of aluminum instead of steel (5.2kg), but what I was told (at least what my limited Japanese understood) with the way the Fit front mounts up, the aluminum isn't strong enough or something. Basically they said the strut tower bars that are on the market for the Fit that just come out from the shock towers, but are not really a part of the shock towers are nothing, but show pieces and do not offer any real structural rigidity. Carbing's piece is multiple pieces and ties into the front of the chassis as well. Definitely would have to go with a full carbon bonnet (First Molding) to try and offset somewhat the additional 11.44lbs of weight up front.
Pics of the Carbing front tower bar...

Probably will end up with this in the near future. The $uck is slightly gaining on the ¥, though it still blows chunks.

Though I wonder where that would shift the stress..
I wonder about that also... I think it would be more of a concern on a GD-3 because the GE-8s are supposed to be a lot stiffer structurally...
Yeah.. I don't think you will ever have to worry about crinkled body panels from structural flex even if you double the horsepower that you now have..
If/when it is caged it will be multi-pointed to the extreme. I asked also about the difference in their DASH steel cages and Carbing aluminum cages and was told the aluminum is usually not permitted to be used for racing series and has to be steel. I can't really imagine the strength being any less, unless the aluminum is just not really thick enough, the cost of the aluminum ones are quite a bit higher, for instance the 14 pointer I was looking at is like $2050 for the steel and about $3450 for the aluminum.
Would be similar to this...

Japan is so damn expensive!!!

Ohhh how I miss the 5R. Here is a quick 36 sec snippet from my friend Tim back on Okinawa chasing me in his 500+hp GTR34. You can hear just how loud my car was as it penetrates over his own car's sound.
