I am not sure if the FIT sitting up straight position played a role here. However, I have not brought my FIT for long road trips yet and who knows, the FIT sit up position may back-fire on me on longer trips :-)... I will report after my road trip.
I'm a former semi driver... now that is an upright driving position, but in a seat with air suspension.

I actually like the upright and high driving position of the Fit.

Wow Paul.. a semi driver which means you have to rely a lot on your side view mirrors (no hind view mirror) and after driving semi all these years, you would have lots of tips on how to adjust side view mirrors for optimal visibility eg adjust the side mirror outwards till I can't see my own FIT body, correct?

Hum?

I thought a semi driver would want a hint of their rear end, so that they can glimpse any object following behind them. Sure, anything too close wouldn't be visible, buy you'd want to eventually see something in your lane somewhere behind you.

Because, like you said... they have no inside rear view mirror.

edit:
How to Stay Out of a Truck's Blind Spots - wikiHow

It mentions being able to see BOTH mirrors... Where the heck are you positioned compared to the truck to be able to see BOTH?!?

(I really wished people actually read and followed some of the things to do around trucks... I hate those twits that pace semis in those very blind spots.)

What I don't like about my Fit, the W/P ratio compared to my old DC5R Teggy and AP2Snisen. 8kg/1ps for the Fit compared to 4.4kg/1ps for the 5R and 4.65kg/1ps for the Snisen. :P

Keep in mind that on my truck I had 4 side mirrors on each side... each
capable of being independently adjusted.

So, how I adjusted my truck mirrors would be completely different how you
adjust the mirrors on your Fit.

What kind of driving did you do? LTL,long haul. I drive a 48' doing LTL city driving for the most part. Have done a little line haul but enjoy the challenge of avoiding bad drivers.

That one is an easy fix.

Order this...

Honda Locking Gas Filler Cap (Element, Fit) - Bernardi Honda Parts and Accessories

...then when it comes it BEFORE you put the lock mechanism in the cap take it to a locksmith and have it re-keyed to your ignition key if you don't want the extra key.

I did this with mine... and there have been no issues and no warning lights appearing since the install.

Wow... you must really be remote to have a 4 hour drive to a Honda dealer.

the most trouble i have is the side front supports holding the windscreen are huge blind spots, its hard to me to see if someones walking across a light intersection as i am making a left during a yielded green light, or if people stop at stop signs on my right side, huge bother. i have to lean my head each time to notice those two things on a daily basis.

OTR long haul dragging a 53' van out for 2 - 4 weeks at a time.

Now living in San Antonio co-existing with a huge group of bad
drivers as I drive 2 miles to the office each day.

I like pretty much everything about my Fit, but then I saw the 1st gen headlamps and I am really liking them more and more which causes me to not like mine more and more . . .hahaha! Anyone know if they make a first gen style that will fit on the second? Or - anyone know a better thread to look on for help with this?

+1 on the factory Dunlop "bubble gum" tires. They wore out in less than 21K miles on our 09 Fit Sport.

You can get a Scan Gauge or Ultra Gauge that will tell you just about anything you want to know about your engine.. Bell is a brand of thermometer that comes in many configurations and is pretty inexpensive.. I saw a bunch of them at Pep Boys yesterday and have one for my car... I guess I ought to install it.

Whoa... Pep Boys is still around? I haven't seen one of those in about 10 years!

Took the Fit out on I-35 yesterday heading up to Gruene for a bit. Sunny, warm but windy with gusts blowing across the highway.

The good... got 42 mpg.

The bad... noticed the wind.

I've driven heavier minivans and semis that both present like a sails in the wind with the large surface areas, but the difference between those and the Fit is that they are heavier.

Not that the Fit was all over the road but it was necessary to pay attention to the steering and be ready with adjustments.

Other than that... it cruises along seemingly effortless at 60 - 70 mph on the highway.

I've noticed a common complaint in the forum about the Dunlop tires not being the best... so there must be something to that considering the number of reports on the issue. I find myself wondering if I should stick with them until they are done or take whatever Discount Tire will give me for them on something else. Are the Bridgestone's any better?

I drive a 53' every once in a while, but for LTL and near Chicago it a little to big for some of the docks I go to. Some of our trucks have 6 mirrors. Left and Right mirror with spot mirrors (4) and the one on the right fender and one on the passenger side door looking down to tanks. I wish I could retire from driving because of all the regulations and new rules but its still fun when I am dispatched right.

Bridgestone has 2 different tires available in the 185/55-16 size.
The Potenza G019 is directional(cannot rotate them from side to side to even out treadwear). It got decent user ratings at TireRack, but there were quite a few users who complained about rapid wear from cupping and feathering due to the directional design.
The Turanza EL470 is non-directional. It got lower user ratings, and costs $31 more per tire than the Potenza G019.

Suggest going with 205/50-16 tires. They have the same diameter as the OEM tires, but are a little wider for increased traction and better handling. And there are many more brands to choose from. I recently had 4 of them installed on my 09 Fit Sport, and they perform great.
